The purchase i made for my WANTED ad "javelin"

I posted in the wanted section of this board. "wanted: 73 Amc Javelin 401/auto close to Indiana.
I did end up finding a one that was a 73 360/auto with 72,000 original miles on it and purchasing it and just got back from the long haul from Indiana to St. louis, MO. then driving it back to Indiana. almost identical to the one i was looking for but only the wrong size motor....no biggie.
i bought this for my aunt that is gonna have me and my father restore it back to the same condition/look of the one my uncle had back in the mid 70's and still talks about it to this day.
these two first pictures are actual pictures of my uncles old car taken back in the 70's

and here are some pics of the actual car i found for her and went and purchased it this past saturday (10-22-05)
definetly should be a very easy restore and finish quickly.
she is giving him the car on their 25th wedding anniversary next october....so we have a year to get it done.
what puzzles me about these cars is why some people find them appealing.....ewww!

this last picture shows that this one even had the same identical side stripes that the previous owner removed.

the absolute only rust on this car is in the rear quarter wheel well lips and behind the rear wheels in the lower sections of the rear quarters.....mind boggling how rust free this car is!

i think the javelins would look pretty cool if the front fenders were re-shaped to get rid of the "faux corvette" bulges, or at least make them less obtrusive
Do you have a 69 or 70 stang? If so then check out www.69STANG.com

It is amazing how close it is to the original one. Hopefully you can talk your aunt out of the rear highjacker look the first one had though.lol
Are you still looking for another engine or going to leave as is? Is this a surprise for bday, anniversary, christmas, or just a suprise? Nice plan either way, he will be happy.

I know what you mean. The AMCs had a style all of their own . I've always found the pre-'73 Javelins to be much easier to look at, especially the AMXs. :icon996:
Every now and then I see/find a car that by all rights should be a pile of rust. I personally think that the car gets lucky and finds good owners who look after them well.
If there is a hard way to do something, I'll find it!
My other car is a Vega.

Nice job! Looks really good and I hope he drives the wheels off it and makes better memories than the first.

I don't know what it is...when I was a kid, I hated the 4 seater. I think it was the front fenders. I had to make a plumbing repair at this little old ladies house, got to talkin to her and ended up buyin her 73 AMX. I drove it to my mechanic buddies shop, he looked at it funny and said he would have sold me a Vette or Camaro (ended up gettin my Camaro from him later). I think it was the fact that there aren't too many left. Went to Pigeon Forge last fall and saw 2, and they were both Javelins. First and second gen Camaros and Vettes out the wazoo. Even the front fenders seem to grow on ya, been starin out the kitchen window at that AMX since 98, maybe I can get the Camaro streetable this Fall, and get the AMX workin good this Winter/next Spring, so I can take it to PF next Fall! It's just different, some people ask me if it's a Mustang (I don't know why)

well it is a nice job on the car and even nicer to see that your aunt loves your uncle enough to remember what he used to have and then take the time to give back some memories
