Why are my floor pans getting so hot?

1979 Camaro sbc350 Long tube headers 2.5in exhaust.

I've recently got my car on the road and after driving for 10-15 minutes the floor pans are unbelievably hot. My girlfriend can barely keep her feet on them when wearing sandles.



Now, I have rattle trap (dyna mat) throughout interior and double layered on passenger side, and recently wrap my exhaust under the floorpans with header wrap. There isn't much of a difference with that. My exhaust isn't super close to the pans either they're probaby 3-4 inches away.


Any ideas? I guess make a heat shield would help put.

No carpet or insulation? _____mat type products do not really help much for heat.

I haven't installed the carpet yet. But I have no insulation. Ill buy some insulation if it will really make a difference but it gets HOT in chere! I figured the mat would do good against heat but I guess not.

Also check your timing to make sure it's not retarded too much which can cause high egt.

I sprayed the bottom of my car with lizard skin ceramic coating
Dynamat itself does nothing to reject heat
Dynamat has a product called Dynaliner which I have used before with great results
Dynaliner installs directly over Dynamat and molds easily into place
No adhesive
I will be using Dynaliner for my floor pans

B-Quiet Ultimate works good as a sound deadener and heat suppressor and it's cheaper than DynaMat.

I used to use dynaliner. The UnderCarpet is easier to work with, less money, more efficient, and doesn't collapse under my heel and leave a permanent dimple in the carpet.
