Nice pics of the brakes - another question what is the front lower control arm made out of? The ones I saw at the hall looked like they may have been aluminum.

As for the Hall - I literally work 2 buildings over from it, so its not like I haven't had the opportunity to go check it out, I took my parents over to see it as there visiting from Chicago. It really is a cool place, and I spent around 3 hrs there and still didn't look at everything.

The Lower Control Arms are actually steel units that have been nickel plated. I sent a variety of parts off to Charlotte Plating to get plated. The finished color/hue varies from part to part. All of the NASCAR teams do this to key strength parts for the main reason that they can see any structural defects through the plating rather than paint that can hide a potential problem. The plating process was amazingly affordable. Example - entire rear end - $50, control arms - $25 each, etc., etc.. The plating is pretty durable but will chip if abused. Really not a big deal....if the part gets that bad after time I can always replate em'.

Thanks Wes - I am taking another NASCAR driving school at Charlotte Motor Speedway this spring. Part of the early instruction allows you on the track in your personal car with an instructor to learn the proper "line". It is way cool to be on the banking in your own car - the only bummer is its only for two or three laps and you are not permitted over 60 mph. They will not allow a banzai run on their track unless its in a pre-approved driving school race car. Friend of mine is gonna shoot video - won't be white-knuckle stuff - but should still be fun!

More progress as we hit the home stretch:

Just got the wheels and tires mounted – can’t wait to get them on the car to see how they look!





The interior is almost done – some in progress shots below including the custom deal we had to do in the no-longer-a-back-seat area:





The seats, door/side panels, A-pillars and roll bar padding are going in this week. Still need to fabricate some aluminum doorsill plates and install. Next up is the fire system, seat belts and window net as well as the push-to-talk switch (for line lock & horns).

After that we still have to install the front roll bar and hardware, front and rear spoilers and braces, chassis alignment and some miscellaneous wiring. Also re-doing the Lexan windshield as the first one does not look right – needs to be “taller” and dive “deeper” into the cowl area. Still needs to go back to the body shop for two small touch ups as well as a complete buff/polish.

Looking to have all of the above done by March 1st which leaves the better part of 3 or 4 weeks to do shake-downs and work out any bugs prior to the Run To The Shore event on April 2nd.

I am jonzing so bad – can’t believe I am this close to actually being done.

You should talk to Kyle and Stacy Tucker and head down to Kershaw the next time we all do to start breaking her in and getting some seat time under your belt. I actually contacted DSE late fall to do some custom finish work on the car, spoke at length with Trent, sorry to hear he left, then some talks with Kyle who said you guys were swamped-busy which I fully understand - so our schedules could not match up. Hope to do some business with DSE on the next build.

I did buy the DSE RS headlight kit from Stacey a while back and got a great tour of your shop - professionalism and class at its best.

I live in NY and work for XV Motorsports building modern Mopars so I know what its like to have a shop beyond busy. Good way to be in this day and age. The Camaro is being built in NC as my brother works close by at HMS and I have many contacts/pals in the area helping with the build. I come down once a month or so to help turn some wrenches and soon to do some shakedown runs.

What is Kershaw? A track?

Wheels:
Aero - 15 x 8 Fronts
Aero - 15 x 10 Rears

Got the Aero's through a NASCAR connection.
