Hey Stephen - Thanks for the comments.

The hood is my stock 67 SS that we customized. We extended the height making it closer in dimension to a Cowl Induction hood and laid in the gauge pods along the back side using plain ol' muffler tube.

The funny thing is we have only about $25 in total materials in the custom hood but over 100 hours of work into it!!

The gauges are your "old standards": oil pressure; water temp; fuel pressure; oil temp; volts; and one unused boost gauge.

Maybe I missed it, but how is the body attached to the frame? Pics would be nice, .

Page 3 & 4 of the thread go into detail how we connected the chassis to the frame.

In a nutshell, there is a "sub-structure" frame welded to the Body that provides support and mount points.

The Chassis has gussetts in various key structural areas (rocker, axle, trunk) that bolt to the Body framework.

Also we used the first 1' of the Camaro Subframe welded to the Cup Chassis to install the Camaro Rad Support.

Here are some quick shots showing the mount points:

You can just see the Body "Frame" coming up from the rocker and around the inner wheel house:

You can see the Chassis mounts at the front frame rails, frame rocker area and over the rear axle area:

It is clear that you have really put some work into the hood. I like the fact that it is a fresh idea, but still looks right on the car.

Oh yes, street legal. We made every effort make the car legit.

We have a "street-rod" style window defroster and cable-driven wiper system purchased from "Yogis" (well known street-rod part supplier).

All the lights are functional. We could not fit the RS reverse lights in the rear valance panel due to the close proximity of the fuel cell, so we have these tiny, high-intensity LED lights that are actually the bolts for the license plate.

The doors are normal and operate just like any other Camaro.

The windows are power glass. Wanted power windows so there would be not be any thing what-so-ever protruding from the interior door panels. A safety deal to me.

We went as far as installing an aftermarket GM steering column so we have operating turn signals and hazards.

Of course passing inspection is one thing, being socially accepted by the fuzz is another. Some officers are by the book and will ticket me for the loud exhaust, some may just let it slide.

You know the saying......."I would rather beg for forgiveness than ask for permission".

Thanks Steve. Your cars, all of them, have been an inspiration for my build.

Its amazing how your mind works going into a build......."Oh no sweat, we will be out of fab in 3 months, done with paint in 2 more, final assembly.........yeah I should be cruising in less than a year". Holy-ess, I had some serious mis-calculations on how long things would take.

      I "pm" ed you.

      Thanks - Scott

FWIW anytime a cop would bring up the loud exhaust issue I would say "Loud exhaust???.....how can Harley after Harley after Harley ride aroud loud as H ell, big packs of them blowing everybodies eardrums out and nobody says anything....give me a break!" and roll your eyes....thats usaually the end of that.

BTW - good to see your in the home stretch.....!

I don't know how I missed this build for so long. This car is incredible! Studying the craftsmanship and details make me look at my project and want to bang my head on the wall.

You, and your supporting players, should be very very proud of what you have accomplished.

Steve needs to get this car in front of his cameras the minute it is finished!

      Hey Scott...

Just checkin' in to see if you've made any progress on the car's final touches?

It's been a CRAZY busy summer this year... everything that was postponed in the oilfield last year because of the price of oil has gone gangbusters this summer playin' catch up with the needed projects! It has killed our car-building momentum...

I hope your car hasn't realized the same... it's SOOOO close!!

I hope things are going well for you and your Nascar Camaro.

Hey Guys – Long time no update – my bad.

Was hoping to show finished car by now, but as in life, other priorities come first.

Ray and his awesome “Satan’s Lady Bug” said I better post an update soon or I may find coal in the ole’ Christmas stocking!

So the Camaro is almost done. So, so close. The car was just delivered to the upholstery shop this week. The gentleman doing the interior is a seasoned veteran whose completed street rods consistently win awards at the top shows. I am not looking to be in any car shows and my interior is a no frills, all business approach. Simple and purposeful – no bells and whistles, just plain black all around. I am very excited to see the results. Scheduled to be done in 2-3 weeks.

Before the current position at the upholstery shop, we have been aggressively knocking off all the to-do items form the punch list. Started at over 200 items several months ago. We are now under 25. All of the interior wiring, window tracks power windows assemblies, electric door poppers & switches, interior lighting, weather stripping, re-chromed vent window frames & glass install have been complete. Once back from the upholstery shop the only thing needed to be done on the inside is the plumbing and install of the fire system and install of the safety harnesses.

The entire hood gauge wiring and plumbing is done and functional as well as the rest of the smaller electrical items on the list. One cool feature is that we fabricated electrical posts behind the license plate frame so if the batteries ever go dead we can boost the system from outside the car. We needed to do this as we have door and trunk popper systems. We went with a 1969 Camaro license plate frame that hinges down to access the posts. The carbon fiber air cleaner has been modified, cleared and installed. We had extra spoiler support braces and used them to lock down the radiator.

One very cool recent acquisition is the Goodyear Racing Tires and Aero NASCAR Wheels. Can’t wait to see how the Camaro looks with them installed.

My builder and I set a date of February 1st to knock off the remaining punch list items once the car is back from upholstery. We are going to re-do the front Lexan with a thicker and longer piece that goes deeper into the cowl and will look better. Also re-doing the hood pins so the cables come out of the hood plate rather than having all that slacked cable bouncing around the nose of the car. Still need to do the rear spoiler install, front spoiler support brackets, front anti roll bar, horn install and a host of other small tasks. After February 1st, the car needs to go back my body guy for several small touch ups and to be fully buffed and polished. Hope to be doing road tests and shake downs in early March.

Once 100% complete we are doing a video and pictorial at Charlotte Motor Speedway with the Camaro in the spring. Looking forward to getting that whole deal together.

Also shooting for the RTTS - New Jersey Pro-Touring event being hosted by our very own Bill Howell in April. Can’t wait!

      Have a great Holidays everyone!
