kart racing?

Hey guys,im looking for advice on getting started in karting.
I went with my 24yr old son,and 20 yr old daughter to pole position on sat. And was pretty hooked on those little devils!
I live in corona and know about adams motorsports park in riverside,but im looking at what the over all cost of the kart and gear will be.
I assume its like any racing you start with a slower kart then move up to the fast karts?

Kart racing is a great way to learn how to drive fast and be competitive in wheel to wheel racing for not a butt load of money as compared to a full size racecar. I can't even begin to list all the professional drivers who started their careers racing karts in their younger days and who still race karts in the off season to keep in practice. I would start with a Briggs&Stratton class. The B&S engines produce less power so it forces you to learn how to drive smooth and how to conserve momentum. I raced that class for many years and had a blast. Many drivers move up to shifter classes as they gain experience but as you move up so do the costs. Buy a used kart to start with until you decide it is time to move to a newer chassis.

They're fun. I started in a 1/4 Midget back about 1970, sold my last kart a year or two ago. Have too many car projects I need to finish.

I still race Karts and enjoy them more than cars mostly due to the Cost - I have a Shifter

Karts go for $3,000 & up
You will need a Stand, Starter, Spare Wheels & Tires, Gear Sets
Obviously you need a Helmet, Gloves. The Suit will depend on who you run with.
I would recommend a Leatt Neck Brace - those Foam Collars are junk
