      1st Gen 18x10??

I've used the search button, and I have read Steevo's post but I'm still not sure what I need. I want to buy my fiance a set of rims for her 68 Camaro for Xmas. I've got it narrowed down to either Budnik Hammer's 18x9.5 with 5.5 back spacing or Bonspeed Delta's 18x10. I'm not sure what back spacing to go with if I get the Bonspeeds. I am either going to run a 275/40 or 275/35 tires. My question is if I go with the Bonspeeds what back spacing should I go with, and will I still have to do the extra work that Steevo did to fit 285 if I am only going with 275's?

Also if it makes a difference the car currently has drums in the back. It will be getting disks sometime next year if it makes a difference.

Im pretty much 100% sure the backspace will be affected when you run the disks 1/4" I think...Im sure someone that had the same issue will chime in...

Travis at Fikse actually recommended an 18 x 10 because it would straighten up the sidewall on a 275 tire. The 9.5 would create a little bit of a bulge that would have the potential to rub on the framerail. I wish i could help you on the backspacing. My rear end is 3" shorter than stock so the backspacing is different.

Thanks for the replys fellas. I just got off the phone with Linsday @ DSE. I've got a pair of 18X9 Budnik Fat Lip Hammer's with inside mount valve stems on the way. Once they are here I'll post up some pics.

I am running a 18x9.5 Zenetti Fives with a 275/40/18 on the rear of my 69. The wheels have a 15mm offset which equates to a hair more than 5.75 BS in my case. I ran a 1/4" spacer.

I am still in the middle of swapping from stock drum to LS1 disks. I measured a 1/8" increase in thickness when comparing the disk to drums.

There sure isn't much room in the stock wheel well. I have about a fingers width each side of the wheel. Though the lip is not rolled yet.

I plan on mini-tubbing one of these days... I don't see how people run these sizes stock. Even with my old skinny wheels and tires, I'd rub the inner well, when going at an angle into a driveway.

Anyhow, remember that going a wider rim, will give you less tire protection on your wheel's lip as the sidewalls straighten out. My tires even have that lip protector bulge in the sidewall, and I don't think that's enough.

Thanks for the reply. Your car looks great. I'm just waiting to hear from DSE on my back spacing. Normally they would have done a 18x9.5, but I wanted the fat lip wheel which only comes in a 18x9. I would like the wheel to have as much dish as possible, so Lindsay is going to talk to Kyle and fine out what we can do.
