Oddball project: Beretta "SS"
I'm sure this car is way out in left field for most of you...but I talk to a lot of people who "used to have a Beretta" and they all say they miss it. It amazes me how much attention this thing gets. My first car in high school was a white Beretta GTZ with the 180hp Quad4/5spd. A bonafide rocket ship when you're 16! haha
I bought a shell in 2009 from an abandoned project and built it from the ground up using a lot of parts from my college Beretta: a black Z26. And it certainly accelerates, turns & stops a lot better than stock. Shall we call is grocery touring?
3.4L v6 out of a 2006 Impala with modifed Grand Am headers and some bolt ons. 2.5 pipe, Dynomax VT. DIY OBD1 tune.
Stock Muncie 5spd with a LSD retrofit, Spec clutch & Driveshaft Shop axles.
Eibach springs, KYB struts/shocks, GM FE7 direct front and Addco rear sway bars, & chassis bracing.
17x7 wheels & 225 rubber. Upgraded front rotors and (Neon!) rear disc conversion w/ Lumina master cyl.
DIY paint job with Summit brand stuff. Stock Z body kit and (Mustang!) front lip.
Black leather interior (Cobalt seats, Camaro knob & handle, Lumina wheel). All red LED conversion.
I'll start with a few current pics and then get into the build.
And here is my first car and my college car.
And a random pic of what my current one looked like stock...(teal 91 GT).

05-17-2015 #6Oh and I almost forgot...I smoked the Stg2 at the drag strip (factory hydraulics have a restrictor for smooth engagement) so I had to tear it back apart and upgrade. Also gave me a chance to detail everything.
Then I killed the 5spd at the strip another time and had to rebuild it.
Best I have run yet is a 14.4 with a screwed up 4th gear. It may have a 13.9 in it with a clean run.
Great highway car though, gets 30+mpg going to Berettafest and any other events. I retrofitted cruise control from a 94 K1500 and rebuilt the AC and added SecondSkin sound deadening. This car is my summer DD. Keeps me happy while the Camaro is still deep in the overhaul stage...
05-17-2015 #74 banger? I know some dealers in the mid-90s put SS stickers on some of the base models. They never actually made an SS. My theme for this car is what GM could have done back in the 90s. I kept everything stock-ish looking. Just clean and simple. The Camaro will be the nasty one! haha
