stand alone transmission controller vs ls1 pcm

so trying to figure a few things out as i'm getting closer to be able to get my car into a running stage. i have a ls bolted up to a 4l80e and plan on running a ls1 pcm. i wasn't able to find much, or at least understand it, to see what advantages a stand alone transmission controller has over the ls1 pcm? and even just to compare the various controllers to each other? any advice?

They're easier to tune. We use Baumann aka US Shift, they're good and cheap.
But I'm also not sure if you can tune an Ls1 PCM with a 4l80 since the fbodies were set up with 4l60's. Maybe if you get a truck PCM....?

If your using a stock LS computer, the easiest route is to use that for the trans controller. Any tuner that will do the motor will be capable of setting up the transmission settings for whatever you have hooked up. 4l80 or 60 or 65. No major advantage to going aftermarket. The stock computers are more than capable.

I helped a local use a Megasquirt trans controller. It works so well with launch control and such(he learned how to program it on his own, so it does lots of cool stuff. Like he programmed trans brake, actually built one 4l80e to operate as 5 speed, now patc has both 5 and 6 speed options.
He even experimented with modifying the trans to have switch pitch capability.
Going from know in nothing about trans tuning and such to developing several options( no he isn't in business,,, even if I told him he should) just for fun. Now he is building an efi stack setup using a fi spider injector like the CPI used on vortec SBC.
So many bash yet have not worked with the product.
Just a possibility. He uses a small netbook. Upgraded battery, ssd, and even using win 8.1 soon to use 10.

You will need an adapter harness, the 4l60e connector is different. Being able to control the 4L80e and being able to connect to it are not the same thing.

      Something like this
