Here is a detailed video of how I installed the canton accusump in my 70 Trans Am. Enjoy.

Nice video. I'm putting an accusump into my Firebird. Can't believe I've survived this long without one!

Had fun competing with you at NOLA USCA! Congrats on the invite to Vegas!

Thanks buddy. Had fun also. Reach out to me if you have any questions about the accusump install.

Do you have any idea how many times, if any, it's kicked in on the track? Like data logging oil pressure or video with the indicator light in view?

Absolutely. I have no data logging but I have an indicator light on my dash that blinks when it kicks on. The accusump will not be triggered in hard cornering if you have a nice race baffled oil pan with trap doors. The accusump WILL kick on very predictably when you are under hard braking after a straight away. It will every time.

So on a normal road course there are usually 3 or 4 very hard breaking zones. That's where the accusump fires. And it is very consistent.

I have a video from a couple of years ago showing oil pressure dropping to ZERO on very hard braking and no throttle. This is what the accusump prevents.

That is with a small block or Pontiac engine. With LS engines I think the oil pickup is at the front of the pan. Is that right? If so you may have different scenarios with an LS engine. For example, I know the LS3 is known for low oil pressure in high G turns. I think right turns are worse than left, could be the other way around. Look it up online and you will see Corvette guys regularly talk about it.

      Great info. Thanks.

I'm also wondering about superspeedways and if super long turns would do it. Once i was doing figure 8's at <20 mph in a parking lot to scrub in some new tires and then did a single "O" shape turn the same direction about two laps and looked down and had no oil pressure. Was only a little above idle, and the loop diameter was pretty tight and didn't last too terribly long.... Roebling has some high speed sweepers... surprised i survived that. I do have the baffled Canton pan--must be doing its job there.

Those scenarios you just described are exactly what the accusump fixes. Pressure will drop and then the sump will fire off and hold your oil pressure at whatever pressure switch you have. I think I set mine at 30lbs. It will hold this pressure for up to 5 seconds before completely discharging. By then you are done with the "manuever" and the sump recharges in seconds and becomes ready for the next "manuever"

All good stuff guys, thanks for the conversation! I've got the Accusump system I'll be plumbing into my 71 Firebird with a 455, and I think this has helped me settle on running it in the trunk. I just didn't want the added capacity of the line through the car, but I guess I'll deal with it. Probably another half quart in the line? Gonna be some pricey oil changes in my future, lol.

Good estimate. I calculated about 0.6 qts, assuming 0.6" diameter column of oil, 10 feet in length. Weighs a little over 1 lb.
