      where do I cut?

I got my 68 firebird in pieces with new one piece floor pans installed and boxes of parts 3 years ago. The car is just now coming together to the point where I need to mount and make the holes for the automatic shifter cable and shifter. But because of a combination of me not taking the car apart, this being my first build, and there not being any templates to use to make the hole in the floor pan, I'm completely lost. If anyone has pictures of their 68 firebird/camaro without carpet showing the holes for the shifter cable and the way that the assembly is mounted to the floor they would be greatly appreciated. Trans is a th400.

Does the car have buckets and a console? If so it's an easy job to mount the console where it needs to go and spot the shifter into it.
If NOT, I would throw a seat into it and put the shifter where it is comfortable for you to reach in your normal driving position.
If there is a bench involved put the seat in it's farthest forward position to locate the shifter. Put the shifter in L1 also.
I would hate for you to get dimensions for a shifter location from a guy that is 5' 3" if you are 6' 2"...

I kind of figured out where the console mounts by looking at another post pictures. So because of that I can mount the shifter assembly. But I know that the cable needs to be done just right and dont want to go drilling a bunch of holes in my new floor pans.

LOL! That's funny! Okay change it to 6' 3" and 5' 5" guys... That would be me and you.
And yea, just get stuff where you need it to be so it is comfortable for your short little arms...

Hahaha... I have all the adjustments in my drivers seat so should be fine wherever I put the shifter just want it to be in the factory position.

There are dimples in the trans hump where you need to drill holes.
Get a 1968 assembly manual. The assembly manual will tell you what hole is for what.
I had the same problem. I went from a column shift car to console shifter.
