      Cars in an Upcoming Movie

Looks like we have two cars heading for a Movie set next week. Although more "Resto Mod" than Pro/Touring, should be interesting.

      Amx

      GTO

They better not smash them up. I swear it seems like you cant have a strong lead charactor in a movie anymore if hes not driving a musclecar. The problem is every time that guy is driving some vintage muscle in a movie, they smash the **** out of it

I agree with Nicks67GTO. It drives me bonkers to see these irreplaceable muscle cars smashed in alot of these movies. Like the fast & furious movies. Do you know how many chargers they have bought and hacked up for those movies?
As if the dukes of hazzard hadn't ruined enough of them already. Go ahead and smash as many JDM'S. & ricers as you want. There's millions of them. That's all the kid's want to see anyway.
I really wish they'd leave the vintage American iron alone. Or treat them with some respect

When they are smashing cars in films...they are totaling re-bodied clap-boxes or truck chassis, and filming beauty cars

it all depends on budget of the film...anything loaned or rented by an individual will be insured and/or repaired should anything happen

The Chevelle in Jack Reacher that cruise actually drove for rolling shots was a big block auto car, then the sliding scenes was driver 4spd 350 car..the smashed up one was a painted rusty hull..5 cars used total.

Picture cars(unique/vintage) are usually built to spec to jump/destroy...others are cast as extras..some are leased through brokers(police/fire/ems vehicles)

Have family in the business, and know one of the coordinators for the FnF franchise who did the caged-out Chargers

I suspect more and more cars in movies are being computer generated.

Shoot, I forgot I posted this. Actually, there is supposed to be very little driving involved. AMX is it 4 scenes, GTO in 3 scenes.

I already "Detuned" the crap out of the AMX to slow it down and it has a Pertronix Ignitor III module in it with a Rev Limiter which I have reset to 4800 RPM LOL.

We also have a friend who is the Property Master on the film and is a car guy so that's a help.

I've been a movie painter for almost 30years. All I can say is be prepared. If it's your baby don't rent it. I'm a car guy and I have to do the dirty work. Most film sets don't want clean cars. They reflect too much light and we have to age them. They also don't like shiny chrome or headlights that are too bright. they'll knock down that chrome or a hot spot with dulling spray, colored hair spray or butchers wax. If they know what they're doing. They frown on the nice paint because you don't want to see the crew or film equipment in the refection. Most of the crew has no respect for your car they'll sit on it or eat craft service on or in it. They're just oblivious to the real world. Grips rig camera's off the cars with speed rail, binders and suction cups. Sometime the cameras are quite heavy hanging off your door, hood, roof, trunk or fender. I have lots of stunt person friends or Dave the teamster that simply would love to drive your car or let it run all day in the sun. I saw Channing Tatum destroy a Hemi Challenger convert clone when he was just to smash the windshield. He baseball batted every panel. I've seen people do some bad things to the picture cars all too often. The pictures are a example of what I had to do a mustang for one of the main characters of the show I work on. It was a fresh correct restoration. I begged and pleaded for them to find another car. The producer wanted this one and the owner said it was ok . Therefore I had to do this before and after. Oh yeah It has to come off when the show is over. we are finishing our third season. Just beware my friends and get a contract signed stating your conditions when renting.

Sounds lame, but wouldn't matte clear plastidip be a viable option? Could peel/rub off the excess after shooting

Thanks much for the insight. I will make sure there are "Rules". Not too many scenes will not tolerate spray crap or cameras on the car especially the AMX for I am the original owner of the car spanning 44 years.

By the way, was that Mustang in the show "Chicago Fire"???

Yes it is. Like I said be careful. There are good people too like me always watching out for you too. If they have a good onset painter you'll be OK. Tell your picture car contact so he knows you care about your car.

I was thinking the same thing. A matte clear plati-dip would be easy to apply and would peel right off after shooting was done. You could also change color if desired. The plastidip would actually protect the paint.

Plasti-Dip is all good until you get it in some gaps that you can't get to later to peel off
