      Air Compressors

I'm due for a new air compressor, and I'm trying to deciede between an oil lubed compressor or a sealed unit. I have an oil lubed compressor (20gal) that I love, but the tank has a moisture hole in the bottom of it now. I bought it used so I got a good deal. I'm not sure I want to spend $500 for a new oil lubed when I sealed unit goes for about $200. I want the same size (20 gal). I use it for my trim nailer, framing nailer, impact gun, and a general purpose sprayer.

      Any thoughts?

Check craigslist for a 20 gallon non working compressor and just use the tank. Move your compressor to it. The non oil compressors are LOUD and less reliable. I have a twenty year old oil lube compressor about the same size and it will keep up with a die grinder, a new oiless won't do that unless you go bigger!

I used a non-oiled 30 gallon compressor for a few years and it would barely keep up with tools. If you are going to do any body work, I would suggest getting as big a one as you can afford. Craigslist is a good option. I was patient and got a nearly new 80 gallon twin stage for around $500. The difference between the oiled and non-oiled is night and day. The other bonus is a lot less noise.

The only non-oiled compressor I would consider would be a little pancake one to run my nail gun (when my long hose isn't long enough).

Craigslist has some great deals between $300 - 400.

The spare tank isn't a bad idea either. I bought a 60 gallon upright for $20. The previous owner blew a rod out of the compressor.

I love my puma 60 gal air compressor. I paid 400- 500 dollars for it.
