      question for brake gurus

I was looking at all of the gm style aluminum calipers out there(wilwood gm3, sierra, outlaw, etc.) and was wanting to know if there would be any adverse effects to using these with larger than 11.75 rotors. The specs for these state they will work with up to 13 inch rotors. Right now I have the 1le setup in front with stock cast iron calipers and cadillac seville with 2nd gen t/a rear rotors out back. Thanks for any help, Jake

im not a guru but i hate when questions don't get answered.

read your question several times and im still confused.
would be any adverse effects to using these with larger than 11.75 rotors
my answer would be no cause you stated
The specs for these state they will work with up to 13 inch rotors.
So my SWAG is that a 13" rotor should be fine.

I am not sure if this will answer your question or not, but Wilwood makes aluminum calipers that will fit the 1LE up front and the stock rear disc. I am using these calipers on my car and love them. Hope this helps.

      Gm Iii Calipers

Maybe this information will help you.

The GM III calipers are not recommended for anything over a 11.75" mainly because the brake pad material is not designed to fit anything above 11.75" radius. There are certain applications that we will re-profile a pad to fit a larger application....IE Corvette rear. If you are thinking of moving up in rotor size keep a couple of things in mind. You will need to make a bracket or have one made in order to bolt the caliper on a larger rotor. You will need to verify your mount center on your original caliper to see if you have a GM III (7.05") or a GM Metric (5.46") caliper. Rotor disk width should not exceed 1.25". If you have any other questions please contact me.

Does the metric caliper for a 1" rotor have the slide pin vibration dampners? I know that the GMIII for a 1" rotor has the slide pin dampners, my question is why couldn't the outboard portion from a GMIII for a 1.25" rotor be used so that these could be used with a wider rotor? So that I could use these calipers with corvette rotors if I were to change to the heidts spindles and do the cheap big brake thing.
What are your thoughts on this? I would love to hear from Billy at Precision brakes on this.
