      Checkin' in from Athens, GA....

Sucks to be a newb, but here it goes:

      43 y/o from Athens, GA.
Bought my first car in 1978, it was a '69 Firebird convertible. I added a RAIII 400 from a buddies totaled '70 T/A(and his steering wheel) and a hood and hood tach from a wrecked Firebird 400, and I had my first clone(clones weren't popular back in '78. I bolted on some turbo mufflers, M/T valve covers, a Holley DP, Edlebrock intake, and some radial TA's on a set of Cragar SS's and I was in heaven.
I've had a ton of cars since that first one, but I was on a dry spell for a couple decades, and I've just got back in the game a couple years ago.
I'd like to build an all aluminum big block(632 inch)/Lenco '69 RS-Z/28 G Machine with ice cold a/c, nice stereo, and the ability to get deeeeeep into the 10's. I don't know if it'll happen, but that's the plan.
I'm looking forward to getting into the board, and hopefully building the "69 Camaro.

      Jim

      Hi Jim,
Welcome aboard, sounds like you will fit right in here. I am originally from Macon, and live in Pigeon Forge now, so real familiar with where you are at. I have always loved the sign of the bank in Banks county on 441. "Bank of Banks"-lol
Jump on in, and get started on that camaro with a big block!

Welcome to the site, Jim. Got pics of the car? (Did you get back in the game with all five of the cars in your sig? That's a big jump...)

Thanks for the welcome Bill & Derek.
Derek, I had some catching up to do, so I had to move fast. I was on the sidelines with no cash (I was an Atlanta firefighter) when the prices started to go through the roof. I started a business while still on the job, and when things went well, I started to go after a few cars I wanted.
I found the #'s matching RS/SS convertible, and I bought it for my wife(smart move, kinda a preemptive strike).
I wanted a GoMango Challenger T/A since 1978, when a guy in my town who worked at the local gas station had one. I couldn't find one in GoMango, so I bought one in Hemi Orange. As luck would have it, two days later I found a GoMango T/A. The Z/28 clone followed me home from a local car show(whatya gonna do?), and the GT350R clone was one I just couln't resist.
Although I love the Hemi Orange T/A, it's the odd man out. I love the Z/28 clone, but I won't need two '69 Camaros, so it'll be gone to build the new '69 Camaro. That leaves my wife's car, and she won't let me sell that one, I have delusions of vintage racing the Rustang, so it stays, and I'll keep the GoMango T/A forever.
I guess I'm in good shape, I'll get rid of 2 cars and net one Protourer. I plan on doing a lot of reading on this site before I start the project. I'd like to do everything on the car just once. I don't want to keep swapping motors, trannies, or wheels, as I have on projects in the past. My other goal is to actually finish a project. In the past they've dragged out so long that I've lost interest. Hopefully this time I'll plan the work and work the plan.

      Jim

Welcome, Jim! Sounds like you are off to a very good start! I'm from just down the road in Grayson. You should bring some of those cars to the Loganville cruise-in this Saturday night.

Thanks for the welcome Jim & Ralph.
Jim, I've been by the cruise-in in the 'Ville a few times this year. It's always the same evening as the cruise-in at the Varsity in Athens, so I try to catch them both. I won't be able to make the one this week because I've got to go to the Chili Cookoff at Stone Mountain(my wife LOVES to go believe it or not). We always get a designated driver so that we can drink a lot of beer, so that rules out the cruise-ins for Saturday.

That's a great story, Jim. Even with the plan being for my 65 to be the wife's she still had a problem with me having two projects, much less five.

Welcome abord. It probably isn't your exact flavor but check out my 69 on the vBGarage. I'm not far from you in distance (Canton) or age (I'm 48). Like David said, you should come over to the Canton cruise next month (3rd Sat), it will be the last one of the year and usually has 400-600 cars.

I really hope to. I'm having a new air box tig'd up to handle the cfm's which will match the valve covers. Once I have it re-aligned I could take it to the cruise even though the hood is not ready yet. If not I guess I'll have to drag out the Viper.

Guys, thanks again for the warm welcome. The Canton cruise sounds good, I've never been, buy the Cobra guys(just sold my Kirkham) talk about it all the time.

Steve C., I'll get the pic posting thing figured out and post up a group shot.

Marty, your '69 sounds like my kind of car. '69 Camaro, 638, 9", what's not to like? Sounds like my next Camaro may be a clone of yours, although I want to explore the pros and cons of a Lenco(I've wanted a car with a 8-71 and a Lenco since the 70's. I finally got over the blower, but the Lenco still has my attention).

David S., any chance of bringing the Challenger up on the afternoon of the Canton Cruise and leaving it at your shop to get a price on a repaint?

      Jim
