The person (Bob Thrash) that did the rendering on my project named it Syborg. He said he wanted a name or a theme that GMC may have used if they built the truck as a prototype. Bob said it would have to be a name that would stir up interest at the car show. Sounds pretty simple if you ask me.

Syborg sounds pretty good kind of a twist on the cyclone name.

Because it saves time.. rather than saying "that silver '69 Camaro with the twin turbos owned by..." you can just say "the mule" and everyone will know what you are talking about.

I can say Penny or Z069 and people will know what I am talking about. Plus if you are looking for sponsors it helps them identify with the project. Naming cars has been around forever, I always thought it came from how pilots would name thier planes (bombers like the Memphis Belle, etc)..

I was talking with John McBride last night about our 70 project, he came up with "Devastator" based upon what I told him the car's basic character would be. So, we have dibs on it! 'less of course, it has already been taken? I'll admit, names don't seem to important to me, but this one caught my ear. Anyone heard that before?

I know naming a car is kind of lame. It's like a guy getting highlights in his hair: it can work to attract the ladies, but it is still just a bit embarassing.

On the other hand, a good name becomes instant recognition without the lengthy intro, and can help give the car its own character beyond what GM, Ford, or Chrysler originally provided.

Now, at the risk of derailing this thread, one thing I've always found odd is when some people give the car a gender, usually female. I know the Navy refers to their ships as "she"; is that where it comes from?

Yep.. ships are she's.. know why?

Because if a car or a ship was a HE and you LOVED and cherished your car it could start to sound a little "creepy".. lol

Now would this be similar to the "Nod" guys give to other men when there not trying to say and look cool. This can from the day's when Soldier would pass by other each other on Horseback.

Women are like Hurricanes, because when they first come they are wet and wild, and really get your attention. However, when they leave, they take your house and car with them.

Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week.....

I named mine "Wild Fire" a while back but never put in my sig over here. It got that name because it started out as a simple paint job and mechanical fix quickly spead into me redesigning the whole car and burning large sums of money in the process. It doesn't hurt the car is red either. I don"t plan on making a big deal out of the name, but you never know, it may get reference one day by that name.

If the car I saw in your shop started as a simple paint job, then I think that "Wildfire" is a good name. You kinda got carried away somewhere along the line-LOL
I know it will be a killer car when you finish though. How is the blazer coming?

Yep, that is how it started. I opened the door on my wife's car at the time and chipped the laquer off the door for about 1/2". That was 10 years ago! lol.

Blazer is progressing slowly as well. I am ready to mock up the LT-1, 700R4 combo in the chassis now.
