I know naming a car is kind of lame. It's like a guy getting highlights in his hair: it can work to attract the ladies, but it is still just a bit embarassing.

On the other hand, a good name becomes instant recognition without the lengthy intro, and can help give the car its own character beyond what GM, Ford, or Chrysler originally provided.

Now, at the risk of derailing this thread, one thing I've always found odd is when some people give the car a gender, usually female. I know the Navy refers to their ships as "she"; is that where it comes from?
