      Alternator Size

Hey guys, I have an CS130 140 amp 3 wire alternator and was wondering before I use it will it supply enough power if I have the following. I need to use a CS130 style ALT for the pulley kit I have. I can upgrade to a 160 amp alt, if I don't use the 140 amp that is already installed. I would think that the 160 amp would generate more heat and might not cool as efficiently as 140 amp. This is for a 67 Camaro using the AAW Classic Update wiring harness.

2 electric fans 13.5 amps per fan if I'm reading the specs. right

      2 500 watt amps

I'd say you should be fine with a 140a. We've run them with more accessories than that. Just make sure all your wiring is big enough gauge so nothing burns up!

Thanks Dale. I'll stick with the 140a.

Does the AAW kit take advantage of the remote voltage sensing with a remote junction block for that 140A alt.? If so, it will be more than sufficient for what you are running.

Make sure you wire it as a true 3 wire like the above post suggests. Remote sensing at the distribution block will let the regulator function as it is intended.

If you're running GM style serpentine brackets and what to run a standard type CS144 140A alternator, I started making an adapter bracket kit to allow you to literally drop an oversized alternator right in place of the stock 105A version. It changes the clocking from 7 and 4 to 12 and 6. Just an idea for ya-I use these in my HD 4ga serpentine charging system upgrade harness kits for GM.
