      65 GM A-Body vent window re-assembly

      Guys,

I'm getting closer with the completion of my 65 GTO. I need put the vent window assemblies back together and reinstall them into the doors. I wanted to know the process to get the vent assemblies together with the weather stripping, glass, etc. I disassembled the car several years ago and do not remember if adhesive was used to keep the rubber attached to the chrome A-pillar piece and the metal frame. I've searched on the forum and the web for pics or videos with no luck. Any advice is appreciated.

      Thanks
      Ken

No adhesive, I used a lot of patience and some silicone spray and start in the V corner and work your way out. I used Ames Performance 64-65 GTO vent windows weather strips on 64 F-85 build. And it helps to have the strips warm, I laid mine out in the sun for a while. You will have to drill out the rivet that attaches the vent window. Now some guys have said they have successfully separated the rivet. I heard about that after I drill it out. That said I heard Ames also has the replacement rivets, I used a screw, lock tight and a nut to re attach mine. I also used fine steel wool to clean and polish the stainless and the frame. When you remove the glass from the frame get and idea how the fastener, lock washers, spring etc are attached to the pivot stud, (that's make the vent window turn) and measure the distance from the nut to the end of the pivot stud that will give you an idea of how much to tighten to get the right pressure on the spring. I took close up pictures and only did one at a time so I could use the other one as a template. Look up my thread 64 F-85 rustbucket in the projects area may give you some ideas
