      Is this a bad idea?

Not sure if this would work but still on a tight budget. I was thinking of getting a 04-06 GTO to have some fun with and eventually use it as a basis for a protouring vehicle. I can use the engine, trans, rear end and maybe the front end and put it on a muscle car of my choosing. Not sure if its possible but wouldnt mind some helpful advice on a good vehicle to have fun with and then can be used to modernize a muscle car into a mostly DD protouring muscle car. Please let me know if not I have this 1964 1/2 mustang coupe I have had my eyes on but it needs work and will be sitting for a while tilll I have the cash to fix it up to my liking.

the GTO is a Nice Car - try to get a '06 (bigger motor).

When you Insure it, make sure (in Writing) that you can Buy the Car back from the Insurance Co in Case the car is ever Totaled. Because of the Low Availability of Body Parts, even a relatively Minor Accident can be a Write-Off

I've talked myself into and out of this same idea a couple of times.

At one time I was eying one of the Factory Five kits. I was thinking about getting a mustang to use as a toy/dd, then after years of putting together the kit (and saving money), I would use all the running gear etc.

The part with were I talk myself out of the project is if I buy used car lets say it has 50k miles on it. Then I drive it for 3-4 years. I'm approx 90-100k miles now. So then I spend some coin on putting together the kit and about 3-4 years of my life. So now I have a great car with killer paint and blah blah....then I'm going to put at drivetrain with 100k of wear and tear in my new fancy project?

I've heard the guys over at Intense Racing comment that the G8 has a much stronger drive train than the GTO. They made that comment after they installed twin turbos on their G8 and had it putting out around 700+ hp.

C4 Corvette... While the LTx motor and ZF trans are not super desirable for swapping into cars, the suspension is, and most aftermarket frames utilize these parts. Cheap and fun cars though!

nvr really been a fan of the c4. I have always loved the c3 and would love to make one in the future. I just love the body style especially the early ones with the side pipes and better bumpers. i could be wrong and dont feel like checking but I think the gxp was the one that came in manual but the prices on those and the g8 r still high. With that I could just by a c5 z06, maybe a c6 or a built fd rx7 ls(granted the fun of building it would be lost). I am grateful for the advice and on the 100k going into a project car does make sense. I was thinking of just rebuilding the engine.
