Setting vent window glass

Hey guys
I need to install new vent glass into their chrome frames and was wondering on the best method. I've done a search a found a couple of guys recommending RTV over setting tape. I've never used setting tape so I don't know how easy or difficult the process is. The RTV sounds simple enough but when I test fit the new glass I find there to be a lot of side to side play. If I used the RTV would I try to center the glass in the frame while the sealant cures or push the glass closer to the interior or exterior side??
