Vintage air with Auto trans coolers

What are you doing with the car? Trans coolers work if they're in front of the condenser but if you're racing it a lot I'd try stuffing it in a place with more airflow. I've had one mounted in front of the condenser on my 82 TA for a while and it hasn't given me any issues but I don't track it that much.
