Cowl Hood Question

I have a Cowl hood on my '68 Camaro, looking at the opening from the inside of the car I can see that something bolts up to it. Having looked, I haven't found what. Any one have any ideas?

67-69 COWL VENT COVER, Designed to cover vent holes in cowl induction hoods.

Steve's Camaro parts online catalog shows a cowl good grill as well and is much more budget friendly. It's under their pro-touring section. I've been eyeballing it for some time.

Does anyone have a pic of one of these installed? Thanks guys for the responses.. Yeah, looks like I'm going to have to have one of these as well. I remember the '70's model Chevelle's that had the functional ones they were pretty nice too.

The factory installed a functional vacuum operated air door in the cowl opening. You can still buy the necessary parts to install a functional door from places like Classic Industries or you can buy an aftermarket plate that is static but covers the opening with a nice looking grill. I have one of the aftermarket grills on my cowl hood and it definately looks much better than the raw opening. Look around as there are several different styles available.

Do you have a picture of the hood from the backside with the grill on? Just curious how it looks. Like you said, it's got to be better than the wide open gap there. Didn't he factory vacuum door open from the top? It seems like it did. If one was made to go into the rear of the hood and open like the factory ones did it would really be neat, bet it would be expensive though..

I don't have a pic of the rear of my hood currently. The engine is out of the car, the car is 7ft in the air, the hood is on the roof and I have a bunch of clutter and a tractor under the car so I can't let the lift down.

Just an FYI, the 1st gen Camaro Z28 cowl induction hood was first introduced in the 1969 model year. The 70 Chevelle SS cowl induction hood cold air door is located on top of the hood, the 69 Z28 Camaro cowl induction hood cold air door is located in the rear of the hood. Like I said, Classic Industries sells a complete 69 Z28 cowl induction air door kit which includes the correct air cleaner and all the parts, or you can buy individual parts. Look on Classic Camaro catalog page 650 for the kit and 651 for the parts.
