Exhaust Fitment With Chris Alston 4-Link

After starting the installation of a Flowmaster 2.5" exhaust for a 69 Camaro, I have discovered that the tail pipes will not fit over the axle due to the 4-link and also that the car is a lot lower than factory.

Any ideas on how to fabricate the tail pipes? I've only come up with two plans; have it fabbed up at the local exhaust shop or build my own with a universal kit.

They both have their cons: I don't have much faith in the local shop as they have balked on other non-factory exhaust requests in the past and the bends aren't mandrel.

The universal kits have more pipe than I need as they are for an entire exhaust.

      Thanks!

      Larry

You can get individual bends instead of a whole kit ya know!
Pics would help, for help from those that are not familiar with that 4 link.
I can send you pics of a 69 we did recently with exhaust under the axle if you'd like.

Unless you have a narrowed tank or a tank with notched corners I think you will have to go under the axle. I fabbed mine with stainless bends but I had a narrowed tank and was able to go over the axle.

I wonder why a closely fitted under exhaust is not more often a solution? I would suspect the pipe could almost kiss the rear end, since how often does a suspension go full droop when on the road? Do they make oval pipes with that needed arc?

I did mine over the axle with 3" but it took individual pieces and a lot of time figuring out the best way for them to bend. It is not for someone that cannot weld or forsee the finished product. The finished product is something the majority won't have and is unique to each car. Under the axle will work too, just depends on the type build you have and what will make "you" happy!!

I used the over-axle pipes and tail pipes for a 67 Chevelle that were left over from a Flowmaster 3" kit that my buddy Jake didn't use when he went to before-the-axle dumps. Stock un-trimmed gas tank.
