      is mig welding strong enough

I cut and tack welded the Detroit speed quadra link brackets on to my moser rear axle today. do you think that mig welding is strong enough to completely weld the brackets on. or should I have them stick welded.

I may not give you the exact answer you are looking for but the type of weld mig, stick or tig wont matter as much as other factors. If you have have fitted everything correctly, prepped for the weld process, proper machine size and adequate skill you will be fine.

I will put it this way ....I have fit and welded beams for a 10 story staircase....and many other structural jobs...yes it is more then strong enough....
Make sure everything is clean of rust and oils, set the welder correctly...test on some scrap and, away you go. If you aren't so confident in your own welding skills then take the housing to a local welder or fab shop.
Oh and I can all but guarantee that your weld rids aren't any good, nobody ever stores them correctly or preps them correctly either. Leave the rods for fixing Mr browns tractor bucket

I personally would've used a tig but yes a mig will do just fine long as you've properly cleaned the weld area.

The quality of the weld has everything to do with the prep and having the correct settings on the welder.

Stick welder would be the last choice. Make sure the penetration is set hot enough & you can even build up the mig weld a little fatter than average.

MIG, TIG, Stick....all three would have worked for this. MIG, TIG are your best choices, but like others have said its all about your abilities, the machine capabilities, and the preparation. Can you post some pics of the welds and the brackets.
