      69 Camaro Front Backspacing

Okay, I'm down, but not out! Any help is appreciated.

In the front I bought 18x8 Bonspeed wheels for my 69 Camaro with a 5" backspacing. They should have worked, but I have dropped spindles and a rear steer bolt-on Steeroids rack and pinion. The inside outer lip of the rim rubbed against the spherical tie rods. I put on 7/16" spacers, but they gave me less than an 1/8 of an inch space between the tie rod and the rim.

I have talked to MC Motorsports who is going to make me some hub centric adapters. My question is do I have them make me a 3/4", 7/8", or 1" spacer. The car sits pretty low and I am concerned about the tires rubbing the outer fender wells on turns. Unfortunately, I have 245/40-18 tires, I'm thinking I will have to buy 235/35 or 225/35.

When I pulled off the old rim/tire (15x7) the tire had rubbed pretty bad on the spherical tie rod and there was about 3/4" to 1" of space between them. Amazing how taking hard turns can do this. This concerns me because I don't want to get too close with the new rim/tire combo. I know there will be less sway with less tire now but still.

What company made your drop spindle

Superior which is who we usually deal with says 4.5bs on the front for an 8in wheel! I would think 9/16 to 3/4 would be more tan enough room unless I am missing something!

      Thanks for the reply Travis

I am using either MP Brakes dropped spindles or Global West's. I will check the receipts tonight. I am thinking about going with 3/4". Here is a teaser pic.
