      moser 12-bolt?

anybody using the 12-bolt Moser(complete) setup? Tossing round whether to buy a factory 12-bolt(hard to find and pricey) or just bite the bullet and buy a brand new and complete Moser for my 70 Camaro. I really don't "need" it yet but if I decide to get aggressive with the car it would be nice to have it there. Just trying to justify spending $2500 or more on the whole thing. Maybe do suspension work first? Thoughts?

I bought one for my Camaro From Moser. You can pick the gear ratio type of posi ,axles Add oil, paint it and its ready to bolt in. And has a Warranty. I was in the same boat as you were in a few years ago. Never looked back

      moser 12-bolt?

You'd be hard presses to find a 12 bolt rear that didn't need attention. By the time you get it suitable for your needs you may only be hundreds off from what a new one would cost. I went moser 12 bolt and it is a great setup for me. I have learned the hard way to spend a little more and be happy the first time than to by it twice. Alternatively you could hunt for the 71' and up "corporate" 8.5" 10 bolt which can be had and built almost as strong for less cost than a 12 bolt. Hope that helps.

I would probably buy a nine inch if I were going aftermarket. Unless you already have brakes for a 12 bolt.

Don't really want a 9". If I was drag racing it I would consider it but for what I want the 12-bolt is great. I can get a corporate ten bolt cheaper but just prefer the 12. I think we have a guy locally that gets pretty good breaks on Moser pieces. Need to do some research.

Tough decision, but I can vouch that rebuilding a rear end the right way is not cheap. When I rebuilt my 10 bolt, I paid to have the axles welded to the housing, ugraded to 30 spline axles and a new Eaton posi to make it all work, new gears and a quality rebuild kit. In the end with the cost of tools I would say I have $1500 into it. So consider you buy a used 12 bolt rear end which you will likely spend about $1000-$1500 for it and have 3.23 gears etc. Than add in the quality rebuild with a new gear and a posi, you are in it $2500-$3000 plus more if you pay to have it done (8hrs + for labor). If I got to do it all over again I would have bought the 12 bolt from Moser and has them install the Ford ends. It seems like alot now, but knowing you won't have to worry about it is peaceful.

      moser 12-bolt?

I bought a Moser 9", since i have over 500 hp. I ordered it with Ford big bearing ends, spec'd it with the gears, spline, and differential I wanted. I looked for a stock 12 bolt it was around the same price. I decided new would be better. Bought it from a Moser Rep. at a GoodGuys car show and received a show discount. Very happy with my decision.

One advantage also to the Moser over the original 12 bolts is the center section and bearing cap area is a little beefier.

As others said by the time you add welding tubes to center section, weld on ends etc etc to an older rear you get mighty close to a brand new one.
