      recommended ratio?

hi, i have a 69 camaro with a 396 4 spd. i am rebuilding the whole rear end and am curious what a good rear gear ratio would be? i wouldn't be doing much highway driving but i want to be able to if needed. also who makes a good ring and pinion at a good price? thanks, 69ozz [email protected]

1st- What differential is in the chassis ?
2nd- I myself would only use USGear/Strange gear sets (18 years of building them gives me good reason to say just that. Best for the money.)
      3rd- Depending on differential, I would use a 3.42, 3.55 or 3.73.

4th Are you sticking with the 4 speed transmission?
5th What is the final ratio of the 4 speed? Is it 1:1?
6th How much power do you have in that 396?
7th What diameter rear tire are you running?

Assuming it is about a 26" tire, a 3.55 is perfect for your application

I agree with the 3.55 if he is going with the 26" tire. Mabey even 3.42 depending on power.

      396-4 speed

presuming your running a 12 bolt 3.55 or even a 3.31 gear would be good with big block torque - I'd recomend a good set of factory GM gears 3.31 are pretty easy to find on e-bay too
