      Spindle Spacers?

      https://www.pro-motorsports.com/store/product.asp?id=66

Check these out guys and tell me what you think. I stumbled upon them a few days ago. They basically give you the tall spindle benefits without the cost. but there's gotta be some kind of catch. lemme know what yous guys think. -jon

      Hi!
This has been beat to death earlier, do a search in this forum for "spindle spacer/extension"...

The two most apparent issues I don't like:
It mounts between the spindle and upper balljoint, but mounts in the spindle only with a straight bolt - no taper! I have not heard of it breaking, but..... It is supposedly too much as well, with exessive tirewear on the inside.
The other is the upper balljoint angle with stock arms - it's scary! Search for some pictures of them mounted, the UBJ's are close to the end of their travel even at normal rideheight.

Do a search, and make up your own mind
      Thanks, Christian (@v8power.net)

This gives you a clue. This is from a B-body / Impala SS at normal ride height.

Wow...that's not good at all, very close to binding there.

You're better off w/ the coleman adjustable ball joint, it's a tapered stud w/ a spherical ball on a plate, it comes unsealed but you can use 2 boots on it and a thin washer to capture the boot so it doesn't slide over the taper and put grease in it. Works for me:

here it is w/ 2 boots on it

It has the 4 bolt gm mini bolt pattern.

      spindle

A dirt track racer buddy of mine uses upper ball joints for a 2 wheel drive chevy pickup. They have a longer shank, straighter and longer from the ball joint itself to where the taper begins, when its all put together you see roughly one inch between the top of the spindle and the bottom of the ball joint body. It looks kinda hairy and week but racing circle track on rough dirthasnt broke them. He has bent some but only cause he hit some one or they hit him. the front suspension and frame they run is GM Metric (80s monte carlo's, cutlass', regals ect.). These are not a direct bolt on to the upper controll arms, but only takes a few seconds by drilling different holes in the stock controll arms, and it all looks stock when its done, espesially when painted (this little mod would be considered cheating if they kney about it).

search on the half inch taller upper balljoints from Marcus. They are very high quality and help a lot. The Pro-Motorsports spacers raise the ubj by 1 15/16" or about double what the Guldstrand mod does, that's way beyond street OR race mods.

TwinTurbo, nice pic and nice adj. upper arms! ;) I used Coleman monoball ball joints on a couple projects before the modular tall stud ball joints were available. They`re really convenient to use but I had 2 issues with them. First their total travel is only 36* or a little more than half that of OE ball joints or the modulat ball joints we use now which are both 65*. That limited the travel on cars with more street oriented spring/shock rates. The only other problem is that while they hold up pretty well in the upper location so long as they`re kept clean and lubed (nice job with the boots BTW) they were getting loose in less than 10K miles when used in the lower location (pounding the races out). I`m fairly certain it`s due to the fact that the uppers recieve almost purely radial loads while the lowers take a great deal of axial load where monoballs have much smaller races than a true ball joint.
GUS68,that mod has been used since the 70s. Problem is it`s not quite as simple as drilling holes. The UCA arm pad of a G body is much smaller than the flange of the truck BJs. I did a set several years ago and had to dgrind both the BJ flange and UCA to physically get it in there and the bolts didn`t have much arm to grab once I was done. I would NEVER run them on the street like that. Also the taper of the truck ball joints is wrong. If you ream the spindles to make them fit properly they fall farther into the hole and are no longer taller than stock. The circle track guys just shove it in there and crank the nut down. They`re going to bend the spindle or the BJ or the UCA (or all 3) withing the next few races anyway so it doesn`t really matter to them if it`s "right" or not. ;) Marcus

It`s not just the studs really they`re complete tall stud modular ball joints. You can buy them..from SC&C.
Check them out on the NEW site www.SCandC.com
In fact our suspension packages use them with the same type of adj. UCAs you`re already using. Marcus

Damn those are nice...if mine prove to have too little angle in them or wear out I'll know where to get some. I also notified someone that was looking for some (he was thinking about using those spindle spacer blocks) I have looked on the howe pages many times, I even have the advanced carreras and never noticed these
