My New Free Website for Getting Sponsored Parts for your Car - Help Beta Test

      Hey all,

I talked with Larry and he has given me permission to post this request for beta testers for the website I’ve been working on. I’m looking for help from my Pro-Touring.com family to login to TCD (Test Car Database).

To give a concise definition of the goal of TestCarDatabase is to: “Create a database that manufacturers can utilize to find vehicles to use for testing and promoting new products.” Behind the scenes, manufacturers will be able to search for vehicles they need for the purpose of R&D.

      Name: homepage-main.jpg
Views: 2520
Size: 249.8 KB

First, the most important task is to start adding vehicles to the database. I need to know how the database reacts as more vehicles are added. Please, only add your real vehicles to the database. No matter what type of vehicle, 2014 (KONI and others say they need newer vehicles) or older (many manufacturers need older vehicles), stock or hot-rodded, or complete or in pieces. There’s no need to add your VIN, that box is only if you want to add it for VIN research I’ve been doing for assembly plant production research for Camaros and Firebirds. I will be the only person who ever sees your VIN. That information will even be hidden from future moderators. Your email address and personal information will be hidden from the public and from future sponsors. The only information made public is your “Display Name” and your vehicle make, model, year, and its equipment.

Check the “FAQ” page and the “About Us” page. Make sure everything in those two areas is clearly written and the information in the previous two paragraphs is clearly conveyed.

Since the site is new, not all of the links go to other pages. Some will reload the same page and that’s okay. Some links will state “Under Construction” and that’s okay too. If a link goes to a blank page, please let me know.

When the site goes live shortly, I will be running monthly contests to win parts from participating manufacturers (I can’t disclose particular manufacturers yet, but at SEMA I got really good response from the best and biggest names in the industry). The only way for members to win is to fill out all the available database options.

Please give me all your thoughts and opinions. I will read and consider them all.

I will be adding a forum in the future to support the site.

So I can track all your input, please send response emails to: TCD—at—testcardatabase.com
To get to the website, you need to go to this hidden link: http://www.testcardatabase.com/portal/Home.aspx

Go the top of the homepage and register, then you can login and start testing! Once you’ve registered and logged in, you will see the “VEHICLE” link towards the top of the page. Click the “VEHICLE” link to search member vehicles and add new vehicles.

Beta testers have given this tip: When adding the database options (where you select body color, interior color, brand of front suspension, etc.). If you don’t go to the bottom of the page and click the “SAVE” button, all your options will be blown away upon exiting the option page.
I will be addressing this in the near future, but for now, please be aware.

Here's a sample picture showing a Camaro added to the database. It also shows the tabs where all the data can be added. The cool thing about the database is that other people can see what parts you are running on your car. When I add wheels and tires, you'll be able to add tire and wheel sizes as well as backspace dimensions so people can see what wheels fit different vehicles.

Size: 197.8 KB

As the title states, it's free to be a member. Even if your vehicle doesn't get picked for R&D, you can still win cool products.

(Additional info: cars and trucks welcome. Any make, model, year.)

      Thanks again for your help!

      Sincerely,
      Tony Huntimer

      Tony,
do you want pictures of cars that are in process? I'm just getting mine put together. Or do you want to wait until they're finished?

In process or finished. All are welcome. You can always replace old pictures with new ones as you progress.

The first thing I noticed was that the site does not resize to my screen resolution resulting in my having to scroll left and right to see the entire screen. Also, color selection for interior does not have "other" where you can specify a color. For example, my truck interior is Charcoal which is not the same as black.

Are you looking for PT cars or do you want common vehicles as well? I added my 2007 Silverado 2500HD since I know there are a ton of manufacturers making aftermarket parts for trucks as well.

      Steve,

Thanks! I added "other" in the paint department.

Also, yes on all vehicles. I will be working with truck companies as well.

I signed up, everything seemed to go smoothly, are you going to be adding a section for contact info?

Just put 2 of my cars in there, i like the idea of the site and hope it works out well. I do think that all topics need either a Custom or Other option in there. Maybe an area to write in details as well. Also Billet specialties is not in the steering column options, not like I am expecting every single aftermarket supplier to be in there already

      Steve,

If you give me the screen resolution are you using, I can run it by my developer.

I added the interior color "charcoal" and "other".

Thanks for all your input. It really helps.

      Steve,

I added Billet Specialties to the steering columns. If you see other manufactures of parts I have not added, I'm willing to add them. ;)

I also added custom and other to most of the categories that apply.

I'm working on adding a "write in" section. That's much harder to add than the stuff I added tonight, so it won't happen until after I get all the other tabs populated.

      Thanks for all your suggestions,

Thanks all for your comments and vehicle additions so far. There's some great input so far from everyone...even if I have not addressed your input individually.

Every add helps in many ways.

Different manufactures I talked to at SEMA will be looking for brand new, new...within a few years old, and all the way back. Some companies want to do R&D for new products and some want to do testing of current products in different environments/driving/racing applications, so everything is wide open.

Thanks again for your support so far,

      Things I noticed…

It was a bit buggy in returning to the site after idling out of time. I assume that is probably because you're working on the development stuff now so I wouldn't sweat it.

      Front Suspension
      Save is not working
      Springs - don't have Hyperco
      Bushings - don't have aluminum/spherical
Steering Pump Bracket - missing about a million options
Should probably have a category for spindle
Could also have a category for hub
Might want a category for wheel studs

      More later…

O and you still do not have a tab for my transfer case or front diff stuff, LOL. Maybe just a blank spot to say something more about the car would be good

      Added my 78 T/A
Some thing I have to choose 'other' Have a lot of 'other' in my specs it seems.
Gold was not a listed color.
Herb Adams/ VSE, Pro touring F body not listed as suspension
Aldan Eagle not listed in shocks
      Cerullo not listed for seats
      Gaugemarks not listed for gauges
Flaming river not listed for steering wheel

Adding pictures and keeping them in order needed work. Mainly when I deleted 1 and tried to upload another in the same location.

      Takid455,

I added Gold to all color option menus. Good catch!
I added Herb Adams VSE to the sway bar and front suspension bushing selections. I know he produced other parts like chassis braces and subframe bushings... what else?
I added the other selections for your shocks, seats, gauges, and steering wheel.

Thanks for adding your vehicle and for letting me know what else to add!
