      Nitto vs Toyo's

I have as set of Nitto 555's on my '67 Camaro right now. 275/40/18 and 245/40/18. I'm toying with the idea of getting as second set of tires/wheels for track days (auto-x) and just to change up the looks.

The Nitto's are all supposed to run a little narrower than most other brands. Does anyone know if this is true for the Toyo's as well? I believe they are made by the same parent company?

Also, I'd be looking for something stickier than the Nitto 555's. They are fine for cruising, but traction is going to be an issue since doing the LS swap.

I dont think so, from what ive read from spec sheets the R888 is pretty fat compared to others in say a 275/35/18.

Interesting, I checked the Nitto website as well as Toyo's site after posting this.

For a 275/40/18 tire, Nitto lists the 555 at 11.06" wide inflated. Toyo lists the R888 at 11.0" wide. I think I'll take a trip down to the tire store with a tape measure and see how they stack up uninflated.

I have R888's in 275/40-17, I can get you a width measurement tonight if it would be helpful. I auto-crossed on them last season. They're not great on the first run when they're cold but once they get little a bit of heat in them they work really well. They're miles stickier than any street tire I've run and they seem to be holding up well.

Please do. I'll take a measurement of my Nitto's as well.

What size wheels are you running?

I forgot to do this last night but I'll get it tonight. I have them on 17x9 speedlines from a '95 Firehawk.

Cool, I didn't measure either. Mine are on 18x9's so the width is the same. Should be a more accurate comparison that way.

Sorry for the slow reply. I got 10 3/4" on mine. I let most of the air out of them (they may have 10 psi now) for winter storage but I didn't notice a substantial difference in size when I deflated them.

Hmmm. I measured my Nitto's and got roughly 10 1/2".

I just swapped out my wife's summer tires/wheels, 255/35/19 Bridgestone Potenza's and they measured close to 10 1/4". I guess the Nitto's really do run a little small.

If you sign up as a racer on the Toyo motorsports website you'll get emails on tire deals every now and then. I got 4 new r888's through one of those offers for $600 because the date codes were close to 4 years old.
