newer camaro console in a first gen

i was wondering how i would put a newer camaro console into my first gen, i've seen it done a few times and i really like the look of it.

its just that my camaro is automatic but i dont want to use the stock shifter from the newer camaro,i would like to use a nice b&m shifter, so would it be better to use a console from an automatic or a standard? and also what should i use to build the front part to mount some gauges? would anyone have a tempate of some sort or detailed picture i could see?

thanks a lot for any help

I just ordered my new console from a LS1 Camaro which is going in my 68. I too am wondering how all of this is going to work. Fortunately I have "'some" fabrication skills so I dont think it is going to be too impossible. I am going to use the late model shifter though. Along with the hand e-brake. Wish me luck! I want to add some gauges too. Keep me posted on what you do.

Check out the Year One Camaro's build site...particularly these pics. You can see how they did it:
