Aux. Cooler Loactions?

I am "re-doing" my auto trans cooler and I plan on adding a p/s cooler. I have the trans cooler mounted to the front of my radiator. I was thinking of mounting them in front of the radiator but on seperate brackets in the core support.

Here is my question: Does an auxillary cooler, trans or p/s, provide better cooling when it is mounted to the radiator or if it is mounted seperate from the radiator? My car runs usually between 180-200.

I remember reading somewhere that is is better not to mount the cooler directly on the radiator. I just moved mine from the radiator to the core support and it had torn up the radiator fins a bit.

this runs from trans -> in radiator cooler -> aux filter -> b&m supercooler (wish i had the AN fitting on the cooler) -> trans
I used AN bulkhead connectors between the hardlines (attached to the block) and hose and in the radiator support, really like how it turned out

Not sure which is better, air will flow around the sandwiched cooler /radiator due to the greater friction however if you are pulling enough air with your fan then it may get enough anyway. tough call
I think the core support is a cleaner install

my cooler is mount on the core support via brackets i made, i basically wanted to lower the chances of heat transfer from one to the other.

Are you having problems with high trans temps? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. I have a trans cooler mounted on the front of the radiator and a temp gauge on the trans, it never gets hot nor does the motor. If it aint broke, don't fix it

Used some 1-1/2" aluminum channel that I drilled some 1" holes in for venting:


Then mounted my trans, oil and p/s coolers to them


They are a bit low but needed to be to clear the RS door mechanisms and the hood latch.

I think if you mount them behind those holes in your lower front valance they will get cool air and not obstruct you engine radiator. I just mounted my trans and engine oil coolers behind this filler panel I'm trying to perfect. So excuse the fit this is a rough mock up...

check rockcrawler sites, those guys mount things EVERYWHERE! As long as air can flow over it and a fan can be mounted anyplace is game.

i can mount most any where.
