      Hydratech or DSE booster

Trying to decide on going with hydratech unit or DSE booster and master on a 67 Camaro... I have about 11" of vacuum at idle. Right now I have power brakes and a c3 corvette 1-1/8 master and it's great when the motor makes vacuum but the pedal gets hard in low vacuum situations. Or should I go with manual brakes?

I went with the DSE unit and love it. I only have 8" of vacuum at idle and I almost went through the windshield on my first test drive. I have 4 wheel Wilwood disc and haven't played with the proportion ing adjustment yet.

well you will hate this...1 above for DSE.

But now 1 for Hydratech. I have a lot invested in my Camaro well over $100K in parts and by far and away the single best investment I made was the Hydratech Hydroboost. Cannot speak highly enough for it.

If you want a consistent pedal and don't want manual brakes, then I would agree with cluxford and say that hydroboost would be a much better choice for your application over vacuum assist. Take the cam out of the equation since 11 inches Hg at idle is (sub)marginal at best...by the time you buy the DSE unit, add an accumulator and auxiliary vacuum pump, you're most of the way to a HB.

I have not added a vacuum pump and I have brakes all the time.. Confused? I just know the dual booster is 110% better than the single booster I had.
Enlighten me Tobin, as I know you know what you're talking about. I know nothing about brakes. Just happy the car stops!

I have been leaning toward the Hydroboost as my brakes now are inconsistent and would prefer to stay away from manual brakes for this car as it is not a track dedicated car. Tobin, will the 1-1/8" master cylinder I have now be a good size for the hydroboost? I have 13" Wilwood 6 piston front and 12" Wilwood 4 piston rear brakes on the car.

Yes, the 1-1/8" bore MC is what most would run with a HB setup on your application, along with a less aggressive pad like the BP-10 like your Wilwood kits were probably equipped originally from Wilwood.

Without more info, it's tough to be specific, however I would expect your application to have an inconsistent pedal height under more aggressive driving scenarios and to be slightly under-boosted given the components. Low vacuum levels like yours still provide some boost, so if your MC is sized accordingly and pad compounds are adequate, it can be better than nothing, if not consistently so.

Hydraboost all the way. I have had mine for three years and love it!
