      69 camaro/firebird subframe questions with RideTech coil overs and muscle bar

      Was wondering if any metal had to be trimmed from inside the subframe spring pocket so the coil overs didn't hit when the suspension moved. Also wondering if the metal bump stop that is welded to the bottom of the factory subframe near the muscle bar mount had to be trimmed as well so the sway bar could move without hitting anything. Thanks.

      You will need to drill out the OE upper shock mount to 3/4" so our Delrin ball and socket mount will fit.
      You'll need to check clearance around the inside of the frame to make sure the coil over does not hit the OE spring pocket (some clear, some don't).

      You do not have to remove the OE bumpstop mount.

      I was wrong (sorry I missed it was a 69). You will have to remove the bumpstop mount.

      I'm running the exact same setup as you on my 69 and, yes, I had to remove the bumpstop from both sides of the subframe for swaybar sidearm clearance.

      I would suggest mocking up all the components without the springs installed and running the suspension through bump and droop to verify all clearances. I had to clearance the spring bucket just slightly to fit the coilovers. And yes, as stated before you will need to remove the bump stop.

      Ah I see what you are saying now..... That sucks because my subframe is already powder coated.

      If the springs aren't hitting the spring pocket at full droop then things should be ok...correct? as the suspension moves up from full droop the coil over will start to move outboard slightly?

      The springs should not contact. The top section of the shock is what will make contact. Pull the prings and cylce the suspension to see if the top of the shock interferes with the very top of the spring bucket

      I ended up trimming about 1/4" from the inboard side of the spring pocket. I also cut the metal bump stops off of the subframe.
