      How much do I need??

      Quick question:

How many square feet of sound sound deadening material, such as Dynamat, do I need for just the floor of my 72 Chevelle?

      Thanks for any help.

read this first. you don't need to cover the floor with dynamat, as it is a sound dampener, not a sound blocker. you want to cover the floor with mass loaded vinyl.

A box will be plenty. You don't have to cover every square inch with dynamat, although most people do.

I should add I didn't mean to say that you shouldn't use it on the floor, I meant to say that it doesn't need to be covered completely. most companies recommend 25% coverage with damper material, in the middle of flat panel areas.

I have used Second Skin products and installed 4 sheets of damplifier, 4 sheets of Heatwave Pro (HP), and a roll of UltraTouch heat insulator.

Take a look at this item available online only; from Home Depot. I ordered it and it arrived in 4 days, and you can't argue about the price.
      UltraTouch 48 in. x 6 ft. Radiant Barrier ($18.96).

After gathering these items up I test fit my Dual Gate shifter and console and trimmed the carpet and HP to fit around or under it. I then went looking for some closed cell foam (CCF) locally and found a shop that had some in stock. So before going to their shop I stopped in at a local U-Pull it to get a few parts and see if I could scavenge some padding from a few late model wrecks. The first car I walked by was a 93 Lincoln Towncar. The rear seat was removed and I found that they have a 1/4 CCF padding under the entire rear seat all the way to the rear deck. It is bonded to a layer of mass load vinyl and I was able to pull the CCF/MLV pads from 4 other similar cars. I also had a wheel barrel full of other types of padding and trunk type carpet. Total cost out the door was under $21.00.

If your looking for a CCF MLV product check out the late model Lincolns at your local yard.
      Regards, Lance
