      regarding learning to drive a stick: some of us used the "learn by doing" method... i learned to drive a stick when i was 14 and my mom didn't feel like driving home from a trip to a mall 40 miles from home... she let me behind the wheel of her 4 cylinder/4 speed 86 Mustang for the last 15 or so miles home... only killed the car once..
