vintage air in a g body

i'm currently working on a ls build in a 84 monte. before putting the big bulky factory box in, i was curious to know if anyone has installed one of their systems into a g-body? i thought it would be nice to keep more room under the hood around the motor and clean up under the hood some.

The unit is $2,200. You use the stock compressor and have to fabricate the A/C lines. I have one of the 1st kits sitting in my garage to install on my 84 Grand National. Cannot wait to install it but work & Christmas holidays are getting in the way!

Did you ever get it installed? How has it worked?

I did the compact unit myself years ago in my el camino. Nice, but kinda wish I'd tried to fit the next larger model in my black fla driven vehicle.
Works great though & I can see the last 2 cylinders of my ls1 now.

I would use the largest unit, since I have the station wagon. If the Evaporator is at least the same size as the OEM, I should be good.

One thing I did do with mine was make a buldge in the top of the block off plate, rather than it being just flat. That left me enough room to leave enough of the glove box pocket to hold a few envelopes.

I would make a bulge also. Push the unit through the hole in the firewall as far as I can, then fabricate a block off plate for it. I am thinking of buying a universal evaporator kit, then just running the stock compressor.
