Please post pics of your early Stang (67-70) to help me break my deadlock on whether I want 17"s or 18"s. Thanks!

The black are 18" Fr500's and the silver are 17" Cobra R's

Both are nice. I had the Cobra R's on a 97 supercharged Cobra I just sold. What brakes do you have on there? Thanks.

BTW I love your mustangs...

And re you deadlock I think the 18's look fine on the early Mustang. Heres another with 18" TTII's.

The brakes are Baers that I bought in 96...way before they changed to the logo calipers. Its the Track system with 13" fronts and 12 rears. The 18's could use a little more rotor in the wheels. There was a Ford mag (I still have it somewhere) back then that did a brake installation article on Hal Baers black 69...I was hooked!

Thanks for complement. Not too many Fords or Mustangs in this forum. I'll bet if I asked for Camaro pic's we'd be on page 16 or so of replies........

This is for my 67, and I think I'll go with the 18's (maybe 17's on the front?) and now to decide wheels. I have and like the 5 spoke chromes like the American TTII's (which I have 17 rears/15 fronts now). I've looked at some 18x12's and they are BIG Bucks, if you can find them at all. Apparently there is a problem with the 12" hoops. So now it looks like I'll have to do 18x10 with a 3" backspace due to my rear being narrowed.

Wish I could find an affordable 18x12 chrome spoke.

That may be the route I take as well. I know many run 245/45/17s in the front with 275/40/17s in the rear. But the front tire is actually slightly taller than the rears.

That's why bumping up the rear rims to 18s may work great. After all, GM has done something similar with the C5 Corvette.

This is my 67 Vert with 17's alway around. I switching out my rims whenevr I decide what else I want. It's amazing how hard it is to decide on rims. Good luck with your Mustang.

the yellow 71 Boss has 255/17's ft and 275/40's rear. The blue boss has 245/17's but they are not the final wheels on the car...just there for mockup and trial fitting. They loop whimpy IMO. Not the diameter but the width of the tread...much more room in there.

Great cars and thanks guys. The 17's all look great also. That's a great silver on the convertible, any idea what the paint code is? I have chrome 17" Magnum 500's on my 72 convertible Mach 1 clone and they fit the car well. Are both Boss's real? You are my new hero. Anybody see the "Overhaulin" Mustang last night? Looks like we only have 4 Mustang guys on this whole forum. Wow.

I have had a 67 Mustang for over a year so I must be one of the top 4 then. Anyway here is Brians car (aka "B Cichocki"). He is a member from this board and his car is soo beautiful!! He even won "Power Tour King of The Road" award this year. Very inspiring car and cool story here. https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7832&highlight=mustang
Here are pics of he posted of his car.

Get the 18x10's and get www.weldcraftsheels.com to widen them for you. You would have to change your rear housing to work with the offset. But a wider rear housing and deeper backspacing will handle better than a narrow housing with less backspacing.

Maybe even six of us here now. Neat. Trust me on modding the wheel wells, I won't need to. Remember this is a tubbed (ex) PS car that I pulled 15" wide wheels (with MTSportsmans) off. I got LOTSA room under there. No backseat though.

Yes I know I saw that on your site....what I meant was change the rear end housing width to work with the final backspacing of an 18x10 wheel that had been widened to the 12" that you so desire.

And speaking of converting ps Mustangs to pt did you see Overhaulin last night? The wheels on that 67 fb were huge. Someone said in another thread that they were 22's! It looked like one of those Muscle Machines toy model cars.

That car was amazingly similar to mine with what they started with and what they built. Of course mine will be better, because BIG BLOCKS RULE and I have a D1X blown 460. I am transfering the show from my Tivo to the pc now and will have pics in the morning. I believe the (rear) wheels were 22's. I thought it was the best Overhaulin episode yet and the best car they've built on the show. Then again, I like Mustangs.

I just watched it on Tivo, and yes they defintely stated the rear wheels were 22 inchers!

Foose and the crew did an awesome job on this one.

Steve, I don't think you can be considered one of us.:icon_razz Your Mustang is for a magazine article not your pride and joy. Your real car is one of the nicest Camaro's on the forum if not the nicest (i love penny). Oh and btw, I didn't even think about the Gasser D wheels until I saw the article on your old 69 in PHR. They looked great on that car. Good job on the car and article.

The silver on the Vert is a Lambo color from the mid 90's. It doesn't show up that well in my pictures but the color really looks awesome in person. I can get you a paint code if interested.

Well, I'm here, but I hadn't replied, since 65's were "excluded" from your request.... :look:

Technically, I guess I'm not an owner any more anyway - sold the car last week... :seizure:

Anyway - here's 17x8's all around with 235/45-17(r) and 225/45-17(f) on the smaller 65 bodystyle.

Yes they are real numbers matching...I guess I am your new hero??:hail:

Seriously though, the 70 Blue Boss will probably be getting 17x8 wheels for the front with 255/45/17's and 17x9.5 wheels rear with 285/40/17's on 17" mini lites. I only wish they were made in 18".

I'll stick with the black and good to know what car the silver came from anyway.

Regarding modding new wheels, I think with 3" backspacing and the wheel widened 2", my width should be spot on. Has anyone you know of bought new wheels and had them widened like this? Seems odd, but a great idea. How well do they blend the welds on the outside of the wheel?
Here are some Overhaulin 67 Stang pics.

I have had two pairs of wheels (Cobra R and FR500) narrowed for my Mustang and bigblockcapri had his Y2K Cobras done at Weldcraft. I think USAZR1 is sending his 2 piece PSE wheels to Weldcraft to have the centers repositioned to change the offset. The widening process is basically the same as norrowing except for adding some hoop and twice the welding. If you look at www.weldcraftwheels.com you will see a pic of a wheel being widened.

i wonder if they can take the centers out of my wheels and mount them in a 16" or 17" hoop. here's a pic of my wheels now, they are 15"

Or Boyd will make me a 15" wide JYD for the tidy sum of $995 each. They'd be wide though. Hmmm.
