stock speedomeeter what option to drive it or convert it electric?

I want to keep the stock gauges in my 69 camaro with a 4l60e trans, what are my options.
I did alot of serching and doent seem like much. either a expencive tail shaft to drive the cable or a expencive cable x box.
Is there a cheaper way to do this? I know I can send out the stock gauge to have it converted but there must be a cheaper way by now.I am shocked no one sells repro gauges that are alredy electronic since most aftermarget gauges are alredy electronic..they make alot of cable to electric conversions but not the other way around.
what are all you guys with stock cable driven gauges doing?

I've debated this question many times myself and I think I'm just gonna break down and buy the New Vintage USA Gauges http://www.newvintageusa.com/1969.html that is unless a better option arises.

They are nice but cost alot and are not stock.
with all the swap stuff vendors are making now I did not think this was going to be a problem.
I can but goddy billet everything for a 69 camaro and everything else for upgrading the car but not a simple gauge? strange...

Redline converted my brother's 71 Monte speedo to electric. Might want to give them a call

I never had good luck with the Abbott setup. There seemed to be a lag time and a lot of needle bounce. I know a local speedo shop converts a lot of speedometers to electric up here.
I went the the DD VHX setup and really like it.

I have done both. All depends on what you want to achieve. Abbott does lag a little even w/ the new 32 slot wheel. More noticeable w/ hard accel in the higher speeds. Fine for casual and spirited driving.

What was the cost on that? I have an Equus speedo that I'd like to convert. Been waiting YEARS for them to offer an elec version, but I want to get it done and over with.

Here's my lame dork alternative (what I do): Get a piece of really good Velcro and stick it on the dash, along with a smartphone that has a GPS-related speedo app. I'm only low tech in most ways...

You can also swap the tailhousing on the transmission to one with a cable Speedo connection and gear. I don't know where mine came from since it was already swapped on the transmission I used.

Tough to answer- he had a bunch of work done to his cluster. Think he came away about $1100 lighter, but this was for a big conversion, rebuild, etc. Think I'd use the phone to Redline, ask them specifically what you want

The cheapest and easyest way was to send the speedo out to redline . I sent the speedo/gauge cluster to them a few weeks ago, have not heard anything yet but I am wireing the car now so hope to get it back soon.
      will post picts.
