rear seat delete?

looing for what people have done to delete the back seat and what they used to do this. I will not be putting my back seat in like I had planned to so really want a nice clean and simple way to delete it. If it matters it for a sec gen camaro

I have a roll cage in the car, it does have a removable center bar but then I will need to add another set of seat belts to allow room for people to get into the back seat. I though I would like to be able to have people in the back but figure I could just use my station wagon for that. I like the look of the back seat but by the time I have it recovered to match my recaro seats it will cost too much to not use it, so just looking for a nice clean way to leave it out

oh, removing it for aesthetics, good, I was worried it was for weight, Ive seen some removed for weight and the rear is the wrong place to loose weight, from our already nose heavy muscle cars

haha not for weight. I have over two boxes of dynamat in the car and some more to come.

I'm in the same situation and I was thinking I might build a toolbox that fits in the same footprint that the rear seat used to occupy. I would also like to see what others have done.

In a "fun" car, I've always hated having a back seat--passengers just mess up the suspension action. Mine has been gone since I got to work on the car (I made money on it, too). Here's what I did, relative to pictures I could dig up--note that my car is not built with prettiness in mind... I used a simple aluminum sheet, about 1/8 of an inch thick, and cut the snot out of it. I may redo the thing at some time. I attached my rear roll bars/down bars to the top of the crossmember that the shocks mount to, so once that was done, I was able to locate holes in the plate relatively successfully. I screwed the plate to the existing sheet metal, so it's actually kind of recessed, and it can be relatively easily removed; for noise and smell protection, I added a bead of silicone around the edge before painting...

Here is what I did on my Nova. Built a frame that ties in both sides of the body, quadralink brackets, and floor pan. Then made some 18 gauge panels to fill it in. Kind of heavy but should add some structural rigidity to the car.

I'm not really all that worried about weight either, Iv'e got plenty of dynamat and a full interior in my car as well. Plus it is a street car, if ALL you want to do is put up fast lap times there are honestly better ways to spend money to go fast. To each their own. I want to enjoy the ride while I'm hauling ass. I removed the back seat for the same reason (roll cage makes it next to useless) and the mini-tub means narrowing rear seats and re-covering when no-one will sit back there anyways. I wanted a nice stereo in the car, but hate the trunk full of speakers look. We built a shelf out of wood and shaped it to loosely emulate an aluminum "tray" or block off plate in a race car and will cover it in a combination of carpet and vinyl. The electronics, wiring, remote-head unit (stereo works off an i-pod dock w no visible head unit), and amp are all on the driver side under the tray and there is a 10 in bottom firing sub in a removable box on the passenger side. The whole sub can lift out as well as the top to the shelf for auto crossing or track days. The hole in the bottom on passenger side is for the air from the sub and the tray on top sits down inside and can be lifted up and out. Used the rear seat armrests for support for the top of the shelf, it will sit right on top of them. I'm thinking of using some old belts or luggage straps so the flat part can be used for bags, luggage, or a toolbox. The wood is heavy, but won't rattle and will hold weight of luggage or tools. You could build it lower with no sub or use the inside as storage. I should (hopefully) have some pics of it covered in the next week or so.

Brandon I'm in the middle of my rear seat delete on my 2nd gen... I know we have PM'd each before, I can send you some pics (aren't posted on here yet) but includes two utility boxes with some pans from McMaster-Carr that have this gel inside of them. You can pull the box and freeze to keep soda and food cold for up to 8 hours etc. I also have a 2 10lb nitrous mount between it. I dunno how much weight savings it all is when its said and done, but its sturdy as hell and ties the passenger side and driver side together at another locations. Since you have minitubs like me, you may wanna do something similar, but since your car is so sexy as it is, I dunno if you wanna start welding on it again.

I'm thinking deleting my rear seat too and just running the carpet back to the very rear of the floor and maybe even up panel where the rear of the seat used to be. And I am doing it for weight savings. I have a rear trunk mount battery set up so I'm not worried about the "car is already nose heavy" issue.
