Well my deal for a 418 with a certain vender fell through so I am searching again for a power plant. I am still leaning twds the LS3/ 418 or 427 600hp motor but I have thrown the LSX 454 back into my list of options. My build is below and would like to get some of the feedback from those that have the LSX 454. Thanks Kevin

Good to see more Corvettes on this website. I am almost finished with a custom chassis C2 Coupe and have 68 Coupe in the planning stages. For the 68, I am either going with an LSX 454 with Holley Hi Ram, or a Dart all aluminum BBC 582 with multiport efi. The LSX has low 700hp and the 582 is high 700s. It still astounds me that the aluminum 582 costs less than the LSX.

I was looking at the 620hp LSX, would not know what to do with 700hp

LSX 454 with 700hp are aftermarket crate engines. Golen Engine, TSP, and MAST all have an NA LSX, in that power range but cost more money.

Understand , how ever I was wondering who was building your motor for a lot less. The other thing I am looking at is the warranty since I will need to have it in the frame to set it up with the trans and build the headers and finish the body work so it will be just sitting for a while before I even turn the key for the first time. 6 months will be a good guess which does not leave much for a warranty if its only one year

I'm very happy with my TSP LQ9 370 short block. Great price, great service and so far great performance with my small twin turbos.

Before the LQ9 build, I looked into the LS7, RHS and LSX engines. My goal was +700 crank hp and found $17-20k+ was the norm...Ouch

Since I had the twin turbos already, it made much more sense for me to go with the LQ9. Good thing I wasn't highly concerned about weight. If I had been, I would be biting the $20k+ aluminum bullet.

If 600hp and lower cost is you goal, the LQ9 or LS3 is a good choice. $13-14k complete.

Not sure if anyone will warranty 6 mo let alone 1 year out? Get yourself a junkyard block for mock-up if you are worried about it.

Kevin, have you made your decision yet? What's your current thinking, given the feedback that you've received here?

Steve, not sure and since I have not picked up my corvette up I have sometime to decide. I believe the LSX 454 under my hood is a great way to go and not sure if I would go FI or carb. Then again 200 lbs lighter for the same HP and torgue is also tempting which is the original path I was taking.

I have an LS7 based 454, which isn't exactly the same thing, I know. The block is different, but the overall idea is the same. It makes a lot of torque. I mean a lot of torque, and is an absolute blast to drive. If you aren't worried about weight it would probably be the most fun option!

I believe the LSX 454 is the way to go for my project and I like the 2 yr warranty. I am still wrestling with going with a carb, more for the vintage look but FI is sweet.
