Now that Carol and I have settled into the new house and new jobs, we were finally able to take the garage from this:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

to this:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

So that means I can get started on my C10! I can't think of a catchy project name for it, but my goal is to have it up and driving by the 1st of the year (possibly sooner).

I'm installing a complete Level II Air Ride system from Ridetech (of course!)...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

...along with brakes from CPP, the 454 and TKO600 from my El Camino, a Vintage Air system, new wiring from American Autowire, 18x8 and18x10 Intro Pentia wheels, 245/40-18 and 285/35-18 Nitto NT555 tires, and very little body work.

It's not much to look at, but I think it's going to be a fun project and even more fun to cruise around town and drive back and forth to work in.

I don't know about the clear, but I was considering having the bumpers and grille re-chromed - I can always do that after it's drivable.

How about do a coil over kit with this truck? I have a customer that has a 67 C10 that wants coil overs.

But other then that, cool truck. Leave the paint alone, and black out the bumpers, grille and trim.

His new gig is with ridetech so I am sure he will be putting the best of their offerings for the c10.

Bags have a much better ride quality, which is important in a daily driver. Also, he works for Ridetech, so he get's that discount on all the awesome stuff. :)

I love C10 builds. I might sell my Camaro off for one after seeing the latest few.

I hope "very little bodywork " means washing it and installing headlights!
.....because thats all it needs
but don't scrub too hard and take all the chalk off!
I dig it!

We're in the begining stages of developing a coil-over conversion kit for the C10 chassis. I have no idea when it will be ready for production but it will be worth the wait if you prefer coil-overs.

I've never had air suspension on my stuff so I'm looking forward to this build. I measured the bottom of the rocker to the floor and it's about 14" in front and 15" in the rear. The air suspension should get the ride height down to around 4-5".

Question is, if your using the 454 from the El Camino, whats going to replace it?

Can't wait for the updates!!!

Definately a mild wash! The current paint is courtesy of the Phoenix sun for the last few years and I don't want to wash off all of its hard work!
The headlights are on the passenger floor. They don't do much good there, but that's where they are at the moment.

I did a little work on the truck tonight. I pulled the rear end cover off so I could remove the axles and I found what appears to be the original gear oil - or someone thought it might be a good idea to mix some wheel bearing grease in with the oil...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

While I was in the garage I thought it might be a good idea to give myself some visual motivation so I set the engine in place to see how it fits.

Thanks! I'll let you in a little secret... that particular big block is actually a P-Ayr plastic mock-up engine and it's just balancing on the crossmember! I wasn't sure how easy or hard it was going to be getting the real 454 in there so I picked up one of these plastic engines to make my life a little easier.

U bolts hold thr lower arms on my 69 as well.

Hey while your under there, grind the rivets the hold the rear control arm mounts to the crossmember and flip them. It helps a lit, makes it hook better.

I did it to my 69 and it was a good mod!

Having been out of town working for the last three weekends in a row has slowed my progress a bit. Yesterday after work, I made time to get the driver side shock installed...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

...and the passenger side of the front suspension as well...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

On the front I still have to install the ride height sensors, the steering components, and the sway bar. Once that's done I can start removing the bed for the rear install.

I didn't want to, but I couldn't see spending time and money rebuilding the stock rear end so I broke down and bought a complete Moser 12-bolt. It has 3.73 gears, Tru-trac, 33 spline bolt-in axles, 1350 yoke, and of course the brackets to bolt it in. It also came with a long panhard bar and adapter brackets. It's a VERY NICE unit...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Yesterday the wire harness showed up. This is the "update" kit that includes modern fuses, and connections for an internal regulator alternator and HEI...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

And I got an power steering adapter kit from CPP, which I actually had time to install tonight...

Outer bracket (the bumper bracket needs to be modified)-

I was going to install the front sway bar yesterday but first I have to fabricate some spacers for the mounts because the PS adapter bracket hangs below the frame in the exact spot the sway bar crosses the frame. No biggie.

Here are the Ridetech ride height sensors that tell the electronic leveling system the position of the suspension.

I finally got the bed detached from the frame and I figured I should get the patch work sheet metal out of the bed before I remove it. On Friday a few guys from work are going to help me take the bed off so I can get started on the rear suspension.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I also got the hydroboost installed. Now I can make the brake lines and get them routed.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

And of course, no brake system is complete without an adjustable proportioning valve and a roll control!

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Yelcamino
10-28-2012, 05:43 PM
I finally had TWO full days to work on my '63 and I actually got a lot done...

Before installing the front Muscle Bar, I had to make a pair of 1/2" spacers so the bar would clear the lower corner of the PS adapter bracket. After making spacers, I still felt compelled to trim the lower corner a bit.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Once that was done, I installed the Muscle Bar and I now have a complete front suspension.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Last Friday, some guys from work came by and we lifted the bed off so I could get going on the rear suspension.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

After getting the first notch cut out and bolted in, I went ahead and welded it in for good measure.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

One down, one to go.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Checking for fit and marking it for the cut...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Two done! Next up is the control arm cross member.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

It's starting to look pretty good!

After work today I finished installing the rear trailing arm bracket.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

And since I was on a roll, I installed the rest of the suspension (except for the shocks and panhard bar) and rear end.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Of course I had to test the air bags to make sure they work...

Ready to roll!

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Ready to show!

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The Ridetech kit gave it a 10" drop from stock!

That is correct

I know it's been a while but I've made some progress...

I finally got the rear Ridetech ride height sensors installed.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I made all the hard lines and ran them from the MC, line lock and proportioning valve to each corner.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I fit the ididit steering column and got the steering functional. Once I get the column to firewall seal, I'll remove the column, install the seal, and then put it all back together - hopefully to stay.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

In answer to your questions about attaching the hydroboost to the pedal. Not hard at all. The link that came with the kit was about 2 inches too short. I called Hydratech and they sent me a longer link. Not really a problem so anyone interested in a hydroboost, just make sure you get the 3.75" link on the rod end and you should be good to go.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I think the next big job I'll tackle is the wiring. With that in mind I started pulling out the old harnesses so I can get started on the new stuff.

this is a great build, and can't wait to see it on the tracks next year. We had a customer contact us with the same style truck to build a radiator for it, that is making a PT style build as well. Looks like these are gaining popularity!

Yelcamino
12-24-2012, 04:56 AM
It's been a while since I last posted. It turns out I won't have my truck on the road by the first of the year, but that's ok, it will be much better if I put a little more effort into it. On top of that, we're having a 40x40 shop built behind our house. That's going to slow me down some but it will be worth it!

Here's what's been going on...

I got the Vintage Air system...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Had some interior parts powder coated...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Got the Dakota Digital VHX gauge cluster...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Ordered a bunch of small stuff from Brother's Trucks...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

a pair of rockers...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

because...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

and a rear mount fuel tank...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Finally got the panhard bar mount made and installed along with the panhard bar...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

A guy down the street from me had one of these trucks and sold it some years ago but still had a pair of chrome Goodmark bumpers, brackets, a Lecarra steering wheel, and adapter, which I bought for $250!

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I don't like the rear upper shock mounts I made, so last week I cut out some new pieces and I'm going to weld them up and install them over the Christmas holiday.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I also had to have the front of the frame straightened. The truck had obviously been in a wreck and once I set the new front bumper on, it was apparent that the frame wasn't straight. Fortunately for me, my neighbor is the frame guy at the local Ford dealership so getting the frame straight was just a matter of loading it up on the trailer and bringing it to the shop. Oh, and I finally found a straight grille from a guy in Oregon (right now it's at the powder coat shop getting a face lift).

Here it is with the new front bumper and grill...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

The core support is rusted to the point that it's broke in two on the passenger side. Since I needed a radiator (and now a core support), I ordered one from AutoRad Radiators, which includes an aluminum core support. The down side is it will take about 12 weeks for it to arrive at my door.

While I wait for that, I'm going to install the rockers, clean the interior, sand it down and give it a coat of semi-gloss black and then start to put the interior back together.

Hey Herb,

Merry Christmas! You've got another great project! :twothumbs

Man, you really were lucky to find a home with a good size garage... and still have room to build your shop!

It looks like I will have to buy land about 30 miles from my job to be able to have what I had in Louisiana... The lots in these neighborhood developments in the Houston area are just too small and congested... I am REALLY missing my 50'x60' shop I had in Louisiana... :crying:

Awesome job so far, NEW shop!!!! I'm jealous.
Are you planning on boxing in the frame?

No plans to box the frame except for the C-notch because I want to put a receiver hitch on it. I figure a little extra strength in that area can't hurt.

:crying:

This is going to make a really cool daily driver!

Merry Christmas to you too Ray! My wife and I have wanted a house with a little bit of land and no HOA or restrictions and we found it. :) So now I get a shop. Of course it won't be as big as I want it to be, but it'll still be a lot better than what I have (and have had in the past).

Once I get the rockers in I can really start moving since I all ready have most of the parts. I'm looking forward to my new daily ride!

Merry Christmas to you guys as well!

No progress today, but yesterday I removed the passenger side door and stripped it down so I can clean up the pieces and install the new felts and seals.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I also removed the windshield. I'm surprised how solid the metal is. It just needs to be cleaned, have a protective coating put on, and reinstall the windshield with a new seal.

I'm off work the rest of the week so hopefully I don't get lazy!

I have a few updates to share. Slowly but surely I'm making progress...

Since there aren't any decent two post radios, I cut my dash for a single DIN head unit. It goes good with the Vintage Air control panel and powder coated ash try door.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I made a panel to mount the Ridetech AMK compressor and valve body. I welded the panel to the upper shock crossmember so the components can hang below out of site but are still easy to access.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

I got the inner rocker panel and pillar bottoms in.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Before I put the rocker on, I want to replace the rear cab corner but the replacement corner is way off. I guess I'll have to cut it in two and remove the excess and put it back together. Unless there's a trick to this that I don't know about.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Even though the floor pan looks bad, it's actually pretty solid with some small holes. So instead of opening yet another can of worms, I decided to POR-15 it and add some of their mesh to help strengthen it. The final goal will be to have the entire floor pan Linex'd.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Finally, one of Ridetech's very talented employees pulled the dent out of the passenger fender.

This would be hard to describe in typed form, but with the cab corner: Tack it in place after getting the curved area to fit, then use a cutoff wheel to cut down the line of the door jamb. Then take the piece that you cut down which would be a right angle piece and flip it over and weld it in as the continuation of the door jamb. Then trim it up. Or, if the metal in the jamb itself is in good shape, just trim it to fit and butt weld it.

I hope that makes sense. There may be a better way to do it, but that would be the way I would be tempted to do it.

Progress on the truck has been pretty slow lately, mostly because I've been caught up in a side project...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Yesterday and today I actually worked on the truck. The rockers aren't done yet, but I had to do something that could be accomplished in a weekend... so I removed the rusted and busted core support...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

and in it's place I installed this very trick core support and radiator from AutoRad! The only down side is once all the body parts are back in place, not much of it will be visible.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Maybe now I'll be motivated to get the rockers done!

The driver side rocker and cab corner are finally done - for the most part! I still have to do some finish work and spray a little primer over it but I'm done cutting, fitting, and welding.

The rear cab support looked pretty good so I decided to leave it be. The front support however, looked bad.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04277_zpsf12026b7.jpg.html)

Once I cut the bottom off and opened up the under cap support, all kinds of good stuff started to pour out.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04278_zps0a39e5eb.jpg.html)

And here it is. I'm sure other people could have done a better job, but this is the first one I've done completely on my own and it think it turned out decent.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04282_zps53e1ed74.jpg.html)

I repositioned the factory motor mount frame stands to the "V8" location and set the P-Ayr engine and an empty trans case in place to check fitment. It all looks good and clears everything nice.

New to the site but I love what you're doing to your truck. I have a 77 GMC Sierra Classic that I love (stepfather was the original owner) and I had thought of doing an air ride suspension on it but I did not want to lose the function of the bed with an air tank. I love how you mounted yours under the bed. I honestly did not know the tanks had gotten that small. I had seen a Ridetech display at the 2010 Hot Rod Power Tour but did not see it on the 2011. Was it difficult to mount the air tank and run the hoses from between the frame rails? I'll have to revisit the site and look more into this after I finish my 69 Mustang that I plan to set up for pro-touring.

Keep the posts coming I am really enjoying your build.

Thanks, glad you like it! I've never had air suspension on a car (I've driven a few) and since I work at Ridetech, I had to have at least one on air! As for the tank, mine will be mounted in the bed at the very front. The original plan was to mount a pair of 3 gallon tanks under the bed on each side of the frame. Since I decided to route my exhaust pipes out the sides, my only option is to put a single 5 gallon tank in the bed. I don't plan to haul much back there so it's not a big deal for me.

Routing the air lines turned out to be one of the easiest parts of this set up. The frame happened to have 1/4" holes spaced about 16" from end to end. I rounted my lines and used those holes for the clamps.

Start a build thread on your Mustang so we can follow along!

I made the adapter plate. If the firewall was flat where the stock wiper motor was mounted, I could have mounted the modern motor without a plate.

The A/C and heater lines go through the firewall. The VA kit comes with a block off plate for the passenger side vent so I used that as a pattern to make a speaker panel for each side. If I want fresh air I'll have to open the windows.

I fit the Lokar pedals. Since Lokar doesn't have an application for 63-66 C10s, I just used the one for the 67-72 trucks. The brake and clutch pedals fit like they were meant to be there. The gas pedal fits nice on the flat section of firewall next to where the stock pedal goes through the side of the trans tunnel.

I've been slowly making progress between the '63 and my shop. Right now they're both being wired.

I ended up having to get a different oil pan because the Hooker Headers I bought don't clear the sump kick-out on the passenger side. The new pan is wingless so everything clears.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04389_zpsdfb68a74.jpg.html)

I trimmed the frame a bit and the headers fit good too.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04393_zps9de2e877.jpg.html)

The only drawback is they hang low, but that's typical of Hooker Headers.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04397_zpsdae0ef8d.jpg.html)

I had to add a spacer to the front bump stops so the headers don't get crushed when I deflate the bags.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04401_zpsc4b873e8.jpg.html)

I finally got around to sanding the interior and putting some color on it. After the first layer of paint dried, I noticed sanding marks so I wet sanded it and it's far from perfect but it looks better than the dash picture below.

I've been trying to work on the truck whenever I have a chance and I actually made some progress over the last few weeks!

The wiring was going slowly but I really needed to get the battery mounted and connected so I could at least test circuits as I go. I finally got that done!

Thanks! My original plan was to keep the patina, but that could change. I replaced the rockers and the front fenders are getting fixed because they were pretty beat underneath so the patina is slowly disappearing. I'm not 100% sure yet, but I may end up doing a simple flat paint job to make it all one color again.

If the spots aren't to big that you are replacing maybe you can just blow them in. The truck has a good vibe, maybe try touching it up, like someone what trying to save it without spending the money on a repaint. Like what someone would do with a 10 year old car that is just starting to rust. Using modern paints, I bet you could match the colour and sheen close enough to get away with it. There, 2 cents. Cool build.

I'm going to try that first. If it doesn't work, then I'll go with the flat paint job, probably a similar blue to what's on it now. 2 cents much appreciated!

I finally have some updates worth sharing!

I pulled the 454 out of the El Camino and it's now at the machine shop for some work.
This is the #7 rod bearing. It didn't spin but I'm sure if I continued to run it, it would have spun eventually. Minimal damage so hopefully it won't be at the machine shop for too long.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/20140510_122913-1_zpsb600d89d.jpg.html)

I picked up this 4L80 from a pt.com forum member...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04610_zps79871025.jpg.html)

I was going to get back to work on the wiring but as I thought about it, I decided I should get the exhaust routed first. It would suck to run wires and fuel lines only to find out I have to reroute things to clear the exhaust.

I started with this universal kit from Flowmaster...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04621_zps5eee8439.jpg.html)

Once I had a mental image, I started cutting tubing and fitting it in place and ended up here. In this shot, you can see the modified '66 Chevelle trans crossmember, the 4L80, and the collectors of the Chevelle headers.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04624_zps440be326.jpg.html)

Until I have the actual engine in place, the H-pipe is just wedged in.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04629_zpsff0f35ee.jpg.html)

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04627_zps44e960b6.jpg.html)

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/20140526_200647_zps70dc02c1.jpg.html)

I'm going to set the bed in place before I finalize the tailpipe locations, but this is kinda what I'm thinking...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/20140526_200709_zpsdb2127ec.jpg.html)

Like I said above, before I finish the tailpipes, the bed needs to be in place. After staring at it for probably too long, I decided to raise the bed floor. I'm not 100% sure on the "right" way to do it, but I have a few ideas on how I'm going to do it.

But first, the original rotted wood needs to be removed...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04640_zps8cd53ce6.jpg.html)

Then the sheetmetal on top of the rotted wood needs to be removed...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04643_zpsacb72d86.jpg.html)

So far, so good...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04644_zps88a7eb33.jpg.html)

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04645_zps8fe7672a.jpg.html)

Now that the dirty work is done, I set the bed on to see where things are...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/20140601_131414_zpsdd2cddaa.jpg.html)

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/20140601_143053_zps654ebb37.jpg.html)

After looking at it, there's more than enough room to run both tailpipes out the passenger side like I originally wanted to do. So now, I have to go back and cut some of the exhaust and re-clock it to make it work.

But of course, I got sidetracked by the front bed wall. At some point in it's life, a load slid forward with enough force to bend the wall into the cab. Now the bed isn't square.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/DSC04655_zpsd49e5f8f.jpg.html)

I spent most of the evening trying to get it straight but no luck. It's straighter then when I removed it, but it still has a kink that I can't get rid of. For only $130 I can have a new panel. Decisions, decisions.

I was able to get the front bed panel pretty straight so I got to work building the bed floor structure over the weekend and for the most part it's done. The one drawback to the way I did this is that I had to remove the panel I made to mount the compressor and valves.

Thanks Chris. Things should be moving along a little quicker now that I have the engine back from the machine shop.

The suspension is all Ridetech. The only thing I changed is the location of the bed floor. The suspension kit is designed as a bolt on system that doesn't require any body mods. Because I used shorter bump stops I had to raise the bed floor to clear the differential when it's aired down.

I haven't updated in a while so here goes...

After getting it running and driving under its own power, it was time to finish the cab corners and the exhaust.

To finish the exhaust, I had to put the bed on first and then on to the lift...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/20140912_174242_zpse4e11833.jpg.html)

Please excuse my welding but I'm still learning! A view from under the bed:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/20140913_184735_zps94ba2dc4.jpg.html)

and with the bed off:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/20140914_141944_zps0ddc27d1.jpg.html)

The tips with the bed back on:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/20140914_122102_zpsc151b6e4.jpg.html)

I put flanges on so that the tips would be removable. Then I can finish them however I want (polished, chrome, ceramic, etc) and I'll also be able to finish the cutouts on the bed side a little easier.

While the bed was up on the lift, I also trimmed off the inner fender lips (the trimmed one is on the left and the stock one is on the right). This will give a little more tire clearance.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/fendertrim_zps7c448a4f.jpg.html)

That's it for now.

Wow, really loving this build. The exhaust pipes look very cool, but I'm curious if they both exit to the the right for a specific reason or not.

I just went through this build and I love what you are doing with it. I can't wait to see it all together and down on the ground. I had a 65 stepside years ago, but never got to drive it. I like the full bed better though. What do they call the full bed is it a fleetside? Love it the truck!

It’s been about a month since my last update so here goes…

The wheel tubs are done and installed. In this pic you can see the beginning of the built in tool box. The finishing touch will be Linex'ing the bed.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/20141003_182707_zps7572c903.jpg.html)

In this one, the box construction is done.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/20141017_173456_zps17d9b9a0.jpg.html)

And here’s inside the box. I coated it with the DIY bedliner so I could install the AirPod and battery. In the middle is a 26x19 space for tools or whatever.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s263.photobucket.com/user/hlumpp/media/1963%20C10/20141101_181745_zps094e3ff3.jpg.html)

LED tail lights and turn signals are finally working and lookin’ good! By the way, this is completely aired out.

Yesterday I got about 95% of the FatMat installed. Tonight I’ll patch in the rest.

My original plan was to have the bed Linex'd. After talking to the Linex guy, he wanted me to remove the tool box lid (no biggie), remove the tail gate (PITA) and have the bed sand blasted (real PITA). After that conversation, Linex went down the drain.

I ended up getting a Herculiner kit from Autozone. I doubt it can stand up to the same amount of abuse as Linex, but then, I don't plan to haul scrap metal or gravel in this truck.

Metal etch primer and tape:

So this past weekend I drove the '63 down to Pigeon Forge for an autocross, car show, and cruise. It didn't go quite as planned but for the most part the old girl did pretty good. She went down the interstate at 75+ mph and got around 12.5 mpg in the process. I have a list of things I need to change and I think once that stuff is done, I should have a pretty solid reliable driver.

Here are the stats from this first trip:

Miles driven - 766
Gallons of fuel used - 61
Gallons of coolant used - 3.5
Tires destroyed - 1
Quarts of oil used - 1
Number of bugs that died on my windshield - too many to count

One video with no cool engine sounds, just wind noise...

Thanks Keith, glad you like it! Yes it's an auto trans. The original plan was for a TKO600 but along the way I came across a low mileage 4L80 for a good price and like any good plan, things changed direction. The only reason the clutch pedal is still in place is because I never got around to taking it out. Since it seems to confuse people, I may put a 4-speed shift knob on the Lokar shifter to keep the confusion going...
