got the answer from a guy off nastyz28, the rod goes into the switch and moves a contact (victory the motor turns over), but the rod for some strange reason doesnt want to go into hole and bolt to the column all that hard work doing the wiring and this. any ideas or anyone ever have this happen before, i am sure its something simple but i dont know the answer

Lets see a picture of it.
It should be pretty easy. Put the rod end into the hole and then bolt the switch to the column.
Here is my original that I just took out of the car.

Do you have a fusible link to your starter?
I don't have an aaw kit but the kit I used has a fusible link at the starter.
