Anyone know which compressor to use with a factory monte carlo ac system mid 80's and a LS3 conversion. Not wanting to switch over the ac system to vintage air. Thanks for any help. Jason

Use the stock Monte Carlo AC unit and the stock compressor for a LS3.
Any adapting can be done with custom hose and fittings.

Though I am not an A/C expert, I think most late model compressors are variable displacement that might not last without the ECM/PCM controlling the compressor.

Option # 2

Holley just introduced a bracket for LSX motors and R4 compressors. This might be an easier swap, especially if you are already have a R4 compressor. Positioning and most likely hoses will be different.

Good Luck!

Correct, I went through 2 ls1 compressors before mounting a sanden 508 in factory location with BRP mounts.Local Ac shop made hoses.

Actually only really recently have the AC units been computer controlled, most of the GM units are displacement on rpm type systems, meaning it adjusts as input speed increases.
It just takes paying attention to HOW the system your trying to adapt works. On older CCOT use an AAOT or automatic adjusting orrifice tube, wire it as older car has. I had a guy take a 73 vette, swap in controlls and stuff from 78-79 used the afgtermarket ac condenser and compressor already mounted on engine.
adapting AC parts takes a little knowledge of systems cross breeding AND theory and understand the wiring/controls,etc.
I have successfully crossbred several cars and it really comes down to detail.
