04-05 GTO interior in 69 GTO

So Im really far off but I figured I would start putting some thought into it. So far I have a 69 GTO with an 07 LY6 and 6L90 trans. I want to know what would be required to run a 04-05 GTO interior in the car. I know the fabrication part but Im talking about the compatibility of the LY6 with the modern dash and gauges. Anyone have any info or insight?

It would be easy to work the new gto gauges with the ly6. Fitment of the dash will be harder. I mocked one up in my 71 Chevelle. You must cut a lot off the back of the dash off bease the dash is so deep. The width of the dash is good and will work. You must also make custom door panels since the ac outlets are in the door panels. Since you are using an auto it will be easier to place the console but I'm not sure if the gto auto shifter will work with the 6l90 trans. You also must use the gro steering column due to the opening in the gto dash. Definitely doable just going to take some work.

I figured there would be alot of cutting involved, I want to try to find a dash to do mock up. Im just concerned how the dash is gonna connect with the engine having a stand alone controller. Does the GTO dash use a CAN bus or anything to communicate to the engine ? The door panels shouldnt be that hard either, or maybe Ill have someone else do them. I already have the seats, were did you find the dash when you mocked it up?

I believe the 05-06 uses a bcm to communicate with the ECM due to the dbw. 04 is a cable throttle and the ECM sends signals straight to the instrument panel. That is the year instrument panel I was going to use.

I found a dash on Craigslist. They are hard to come by and people want a lot of money when you find them. Luckily I found a guy that had been trying to sell one for a few years so I got it for a song. But it did not have the radio, instrument panel, headlight switch and other small items. Those all add up in the end so I would try to get one with all the trim and accessories. Also get the wiring harness.

it is getting cheaper, I picked up a whole salvage(no motor) 04 gto for interior parts, and you could put vents at the end of the dash(just have to build/fab/maybe even find them)... Turn the end AC towards the cabin and done.

to do it right you need the trans tunnel and firewall. Well to make your life WAY easier, this is why I went the salvage car route. I have an LS3 out of a 2010 camaro though... its drive by wire but I need to buy the ECU anyways. the 2004 is cable throttle. I picked up a brake master and res for 19$ Parts are insanely cheap, I am selling the entire rear end out of the car for 375$...

I am doing something similar to this. He doesn't show the real final product and mine will be alot cleaner install than this, its not bad though. Just not as clean as I would like(im very picky hey shoot me)...

That rack and pinion setup scares me...

I think his floor pans were rotted so he used the gto full floor to replace. I don't want to be doing that, but who knows it might make sense... I weep at the thought of cutting out my originial unmolested floor pans... :(

this kind of gives you an idea of just how much you have to hack off the front... its a scary amount

I may try to "reposition" the wheel a little to get a better angle, but of course you have to have some footroom
