I'm swapping an '84 Buick Regal steering column into my '79 Cutlass. All the plug terminals transfer over except the extra plug in the '84 column photo below. This extra plug is on the gear selector switch located lowest on the column.

The plug that is common to both is the one with the green and blue wire. This turns on the reverse lights when the shifter is put into reverse. The extra plug (with an orange wire with a black stripe and a black wire with a white stripe) appears to be associated with when the shifter is in park.

Can anyone help me identify what the extra plug is for? Thanks!!!

Here's my original. I thought of swapping the switches but they mount differently and that won't work.

Ben, looking at that other forum I agree its the neutral safety switch and you will need it for NHRA/ IHRA tech for sure (plus it's a good idea anyways). You mention you already have it wired into your B&M floor shifter, where did you tap into? On mine I tapped the (purple I think?) wire coming out of the column and put the floor shifter switch in line there. Looks to me like you could just extend those 2 wires to your floor shifter switch and put back the previous neutral safety wiring you had done or connect them and use your existing whichever you prefer.

Oh just a heads up, I did the same and just leave the column in park too but without the handle in there ever once in awhile the collor rotates down. No big deal you just can get the key sin or out until you rotate it back up...
