      can't get ignition tumbler out!

I've read and read again the documentation on how to do it, I just can't the damn thing to release. It's a 69 Firebird, which uses the metal spring tab to hold it in. You're supposed to break through the casting flash in the slot to the left of the screw boss (I did this), then insert a flat blade and depress the tab allowing the cylinder to pop out. Yeah right! I can't see any tab in there, nor feel anything when I insert a blade. I fiddled with it for 45 minutes yesterday before giving up and putting the steering wheel back on.

Can someone who's done this shed some light on why I can't get the thing to come out? What to look for in there, where exactly to feel around?
      Thanks.

Did you have the key in the cylinder and the cylinder turned to the run position? Try that while inserting a screw driver through the broken casting. Without the key you have to push very hard on the catch to break it before the cylinder will come out.

I tried it in run and lock, but nothing. I might just have to push harder I guess. It's just weird, I can't feel anything in there to push down on. Damn they make the easy stuff hard. :(

Yeah, had the same problem with mine. It's stupid!!!! Ending up drilling the darn thing out. Took awhile and made a mess but FINALLY destroyed it enough to push in on tab and pull out. Drilled into keyslot, not the front.
