Well I am looking for some imput. I have a 67 camaro with a 2000 ls1 t56 combo I have installed I used ats plates mounts and trans crossmember. I installed stainless works ls1 long tube headers. The car has a third gen quick ratio box and the header to box clearance is like 1/8 of an inch from tube to steering box. This concerns me. I can start a power steering hose in the box however it is very close to the HOT header. Just curious if you have any advice or by chance have this set up and some personal experience Thanks

I've had a similar journey with a customer's car. It seems there is no great solution to this problem. I'm using a DSE box with BRP (Hedman) mounts, and I ended up cutting apart a Stainless Works header and re-working it to fit better. I've got 1/2" to 3/4" clearance now, with plenty of room for hoses.

The dynatech headers use the ats mounts & routes the header tube up over the top giving plenty of room for the box. Only thing is you have to modify the 2 rear plug wires to clear the tubes. I used taylor wires & bought 2 135* boots & clips to make it work.

On the Dynatechs, have you got a photo of where the collector is? Especially with how low it hangs below the floor?

Well i guess i might just have to cut up a frickin 700.00 set of headers. That does not make me happy. But its gotta be done and be right

My setup is very similar, but I have these headers http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DOU-D3337/ I made my engine mounting pates.
I have a couple inches clearance on the hose/lines. The box is pretty close, but I don't believe it will be a problem.

Do you have a pic of the motor mount plates you made? Is the engine in the stock location or forward/aft?
Thanks, Tim

I used 1/2" 6061 T6 alum, They are made so the Bell housing mount surface is in Stock location. The passenger side head on a LS engine is all the way to the back of the block, so firewall clearance is very tight. (3/8") I have a Solid Works model. PM me if you can use it.

Pics of the dynatechs from the bottom. The pass side is slightly lower than driver side. I have dirty dingo DD engine plates, small block short/wide frame stands, and stock rubber motor mounts. I am also using stock height aluminum body bushings.

Looks good. Dynatechs next time for me, I think. The only problem there is that I much prefer a raw ss header over a coated steel version.
Frank at Prodigy tells me that ATS mounts work well with the Stainless Works headers.

Wish I had 1/8" clearance, had to slightly bang in one of my tubes around the gearbox and it still touches. Car is not on the road yet, don't know if this will be an issue or not??

My 68 firebird pictured above has hotchkis springs front & rear. Its not done yet so I have not driven it. Its def not as low as my 69, but thats a totally different setup. I'm working on the brakes now & when they are all bled & no leaks I'll put the wheels on it & set it on the ground if you need some pics/measurements. Scott

I know I'm a little late to the party but here is a pic of the collecter to floor clearance on a 68 with Dynatechs.
In my opinion they hang too low. There is no need for 2 to 3 inches of clearance at the floor I would rather have the ground clearance and have the collector against the floor ! But that is coming from a guy that like **** low. They work for this project but if I wanted the car lower I would have to look elsewhere. Now my Lemons on the other hand are right against the floor and have tons of clearance !
Just my 2cents hope it helps !

Can you post a picture of how low the Doug's headers hang below, the frame? I am in the process buying headers for an LS swap with Truturn and both have been noted to clear.

Scott, are yours Dynatech or Doug's headers? Do you think they hang too low? Is there a picture of the Doug's headers hanging down?

Mine are dynatechs. I think they will be fine for my ride height (hotchkis drop springs)

I ended up having to modify the passenger header as well to clear the idler arm at full lock. That cost me a solid 10 hours of work.

I'll take one tonight.... I have it sitting at ride height now, so it should be a pretty good gage. for what you want.

It's just about 3" to the lowest part of the header. I added the V-band clamp. The Magnaflow X-pipe already had that angle on it, which made that pipe come out on that angle. If you don't use off the shelf exhaust system, you should have more clearance than I do.

It may end up a little lower once the glass and seats are in.
