tire help

Hey all,
I know you all are sick of people asking "will they fit"
sorry But I have a Will they fit question
I have a 79 ta sitting at stock height and haven't beat the seat belt bumps in.
I have the front set up fine, But the rear set up is giving me guff
I currently am running a 275 40 in the rear with no problems
But I wondering, will a 255 50 size tire fit under the car with no problems?
i am wanting just a little more side wall on the tire in the rear.
the rims i have for the rear is a 9.5 x 17

dang no one has 255 50 17s in the rear of there car
