PT Buick GN Build . . . Anyone?

Anyone know of a proper Pro Touring build for a Buick Grand National? I've been brainstorming ideas. Keep the turbo 6 (with upgrades, of course), ad a T-56, Posi Trac rear end, coilovers, Wilwood brakes, and killer 18 inch deep dish wheels with a proper fender flair kit, splitter and spoiler.

Has anyone done this, yet?

Forget a T-56 with a Stock Block 3.8L. They are spindly in thrust and have the powerband of a Diesel.

The cost of V-6 blocks that will survive in front of a manual will get you a nice LS motor.

It would be cheaper and faster if you put in a 6 speed auto behind the V-6. In 25 years and 40,000+ Turbo buicks built, you can count the number of successful Manual transmission Turbo buick street/race cars on one hand and I can't think of any that weren't stage II motor based.

Good advice above. I'm doing a mile Pro-Touring GN for my son (no build thread yet), and Project GNXcess mentioned above (its going to be LS powered through). Scott at GNS has probably the perfect example of a Pro Touring Buick (DSE suspension, Baer brakes, CCW wheels), so I'd definitely check him out. He is a great guy, and makes some really nice products for Buicks, too!

I have built an adjustable rear spoiler for my Regal, kinda crude, and not installed yet, when I do I will post pics. I've also toyed with the idea of a splitter, I run a full front air dam that is a 1" lower than the ones found on the 82 GN, and did a card board test piece on how a splitter would look and attach. will post those pics too when done.

Back in the 1990's, when we built our 2+2, the original plan was a built GN drivetrain and we were going to turn up the boost for standing mile events like Maxton, then dial the boost back for the open road races.

My dad has always wanted a manual GP since he lusted after a '69 SJ when they were new. We had one of the 232 built 4 speed manual '79 GP's, but the 301 was a boat anchor, even with a 4bbl. Going with the 6 speed meant the V-6 was pretty much out of the question, because going V-6 meant using a Stage II or Indy block and big dollars, so we went with a N/A big block.

The V-6 would have been a lot faster (Rocket sled fast), but we've broke 3 transmissions and smoked 1 clutch with the 502. Those numbers would have doubled with a turbo motor (and if we used a stock block, you could throw 2 or 3 blocks/cranks on the scrap pile).
